We stopped in and picked up some breakfast biscuit orders and decided to pick up some donuts too. It was 10:30 on a Sunday and they'd already run out of creme brûlée donuts and apple fritters, but we picked up a maple log, a cinnamon cruller and a plain donut and we're glad we did - they are excellent. The biscuits were good too, but didn't evoke the same oohs and ahs. The small space was packed with people waiting for their orders - the staff tried to make it more pleasant with free donut holes - so I suggest you arrive early.

We're breakfast people, but it looks like the city of Durham is not. Other than the Dunkin' Clones littering the consumer landscape, we saw nothing of regional coffee shops/bakeries. Our kin pointed us in the direction of Rise, and we joined the line for a breakfast snack there. The doughnuts are super-fresh, having come out of the oven seconds before they joined the lot in our box. And delicious - the chocolate chocolate are indeed very chocolaty, without being overwhelmingly sweet, the apple ciders excellent, and the maple-bacon logs are very popular.
We were lucky to get in line when it was short; I'm told the line runs for a block or more on busy days.

When in the South you think of biscuits as the bread of choice. Rise makes an exceptional one. You will want to return and return and return. They are THAT good. Rise offers their basic biscuits with a variety of toppings. On this occasion we had a Fried Chicken with lettuce, tomato, and Duke's mayo as well as another biscuit with pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes. Both were filling and delicious. Don't be turned off by the line to order. The staff is friendly and efficient. You will have your order (to perfection) within minutes. Will give you time to salivate over their freshly made donuts, also with a variety of toppings. Don't forget to add these to your order. Enjoy!

We may have been jaded by Dunkin Donuts and the like, but this is a wonderful surprise addition to Sunshine Biscuit and the other to-go shops.

First, they make a great donut! Of course, you didn't come here for that, did you? So, you can choose among many biscuit options to go with the egg you prefer -- bacon, sausage, both, cheese, jalapenos, etc.

I go here at least weekly to get my fix!!

This place is just open for breakfast and lunch, and their menu is fairly limited. But what they serve is truly outstanding. Almost any biscuit sandwich is worth it for the biscuit alone, which is fluffy and crispy and delicious. Their special this day was a pastrami, cheese and sauerkraut concoction that was out of this world. Their chicken biscuits are just as good, with chicken that is moist, crispy and flavorful. And if you save room, almost any donut will blow you away - with the maple bacon bar near the top of the list.
