My husband booked Rudding Park for my Birthday this year. We'd both had our eye on it for few years but in the past had decided not to go due to the lack of a spa there, despite the amazing reviews. However, they now have a new spa building so there was no reason not to go....
With the reviews of Rudding being so consistently good I must admit expectations were high. Upon arrival we were surprised at the size of the property - the car parks are huge! This in practice meant we had to park quite far away from Reception and we chose to walk up without our luggage to check in.
We were warmly greeted immediately and no sooner had my husband given his name than I was given a very cheerful 'Happy Birthday' from the young man on reception.
He walked back thought he car park with us to retrieve our luggage and carried pretty much all of it by himself back to reception - I don't travel light so this was very good of him!
We had phoned ahead to find out if we could arrive early and go to the spa and were told this was fine so we arrived at 1pm. The man on reception said he'd arrange for us to have some complimentary glasses of fizz in the Rooftop Spa as it was my birthday which was a lovely start to the day. As our room wasn't ready, we were shown to a small room to get changed and using the hotel robes and slippers headed over to the spa.
The spa building is truly impressive! It's brand new so has quite a few techie features - special door locks and the like which add to the high end feel of it but mainly it was sparsely & very tastefully decorated with excellent facilities.
The experiences in the spa are fantastic - different types of steam rooms and saunas (indoor and outdoor) as well as 2 hot pools outside. We were spoilt for choice! We duly worked our way through all the different rooms and pools and then enjoyed our complimentary fizz before heading to the relaxation area. This was the only bit of the spa which I thought could have been improved by being darker, warmer and quieter! (The relaxation room at the Malvern Spa is a great example of what's needed here!) Otherwise this was, in my opinion, as good as spas in Austria which always offer brilliant variety and facilities. It's absolutely first class and very worthy of all the wonderful reviews it has.
After our time in the spa we checked in and were shown to our room. They very kindly upgraded us as it was my birthday and also left us a bottle of fizz and a card in the room for us too which was very sweet and much appreciated.
The room was lovely - tastefully decorated and also very functional - it felt like someone had road tested the room to check that it was actually properly equipped and that everything you might need was to hand. The bathroom was beautiful - the only slight niggle if i am being really picky was that the shower door opened outwards and made the floor really wet/ slippy. Aside from that tiny thing it was great. The bed was huge and supremely comfy and the curtains really did black out any light - bliss!
We had booked dinner at Horto (separate review) which was good - there were a few small niggles there but overall a very pleasant evening. In brief: Food good; decor not really to my taste - the restaurant didn't have the right feel to it IMO; service was good in the main but could have done with a little polishing in places.
In the morning it was snowing and so we decided to head to the spa early before breakfast. We enjoyed a spell in the hot tub outside in the snow on our own which was lovely and a really relaxing start to the day - we only wished we could have stayed in there a bit longer!
Breakfast was great - though it was a bit unusual to find hot food as part buffet, part table service - we were given a seat in the conservatory which was really lovely. Although we were fairly late to breakfast we were not hurried along in anyway and the staff cheerfully offered us more food and drink until we decided to leave.
Checkout was very efficient and once again our bags were carried for us.
The staff throughout the hotel are courteous, polite and very helpful - and all very young!! I only comment on their age because it seems surprising such a young team can offer such a great service and I am sure there are more experienced hands leading this young team. In general though they were a young and attractive bunch and I assume that they have been employed for exactly this reason - rather like the hotel equivalent of Hollister - as it adds to the overall experience.
Overall we had a lovely stay at Rudding and can see why they have such good reviews - certainly it met our expectations and we'd happily return. it was a very Happy Birthday so Thank You RP Team!

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, after enticing you when we opened our new Spa and the reviews that you had the pleasure of reading.

We strive to ensure your stay is a memorable one from your moment of arrival and it sounds though our team made an impression on you from the start of your Rudding Park journey. We do apologise that there was a considerable walk for you from the car park. Did you know we can offer a valet service, so next time the walk might not be as long for you.

It sounds as though you thoroughly enjoyed the facilities within our Spa and its special technical features offering that extra decadence to your visit. Our vast Spa offers an array of things to do, whether it’s sitting back in one of our steam rooms or saunas, or taking in the scenic views around our gardens whilst relaxing in the outdoor hydrotherapy pool, there is something to do for everyone. We are sorry to hear that you thought the relaxation rooms should be warmer, darker and quieter. We do monitor the temperature within this area to ensure it is comfortable for all, although I am sure you are aware temperature is a highly subjective matter. We do however appreciate your feedback though, as it highlights areas in which we can improve the experience we offer to our guests, therefore we will monitor this for yourself and future guests.

The comfort of our guests is paramount so we are delighted to hear you appreciated the blackout curtains and huge comfortable bed, to ensure a good night’s sleep.

Thank you for your comments with regard to the breakfast served in the Clocktower restaurant. We currently have an option to choose from the hot buffet, if guests have limited time, alternatively a freshly cooked breakfast can be offered to those guests having a more leisurely start to their day, we apologise if this was not offered to you though. We are delighted to hear you had the pleasure of dining in our conservatory and that you did not feel rushed.

It is great to hear that you had an overall lovely stay to Rudding Park and you can understand why we receive the positive reviews that we do. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you back to Rudding Park again. When you have a suitable date in mind, please contact us directly to ensure you receive our special offers and best available rates.

Kind Regards
The Rudding Park Team

Our trip to Rudding Park was excellent from start to finish. They think of all the little things throughout your stay. Examples of this include a free bottle of fizz left in the room for when we arrived as they knew it was my birthday, and meet and greet at reception to collect your bags.

Definitely recommend paying for access to the rooftop spa, you won’t regret it, beautiful spa, clean, with lovely infinity pool and saunas/steam rooms. It got really busy at 3pm once more hotel guests came so well worth getting in there early! Treatment area is also lovely with nice relaxation area for afterwards. Alcohol in the spa was quite pricey but didn’t mind given expected with such a nice spa.

We ate in the horto restaurant, wasn’t the best tasting menu I have had, but food was good.

Will definitely be returning!

Friday night dinner for 40 in the library done very well with attentive and proper service. Could not fault the food nor wine in very congenial surroundings.

Only drawback could have been a noisy wedding party next door but not too noticeable once the thick library doors were closed.
