This is one of those places that's the best of both worlds. You get to experience walking the paths of a beautiful historic property, followed by dining on the porch of an early 1900's estate, overlooking the Connetquot River. What the Hidden Oak Cafe has to offer, is the perfect fit for this setting. It's menu is not "seasonal". If you love the Gorgonzola salad, it will be there, whether you visit in April or October. Their daily specials consist of a soup, quiche and sandwich. I must admit, I tend to favor the salads, the Greek, and the Gorgonzola, being my favorites, and some of their sandwiches. The egg salad on pumpernickel is very tasty, as is their roast beef with brie and horseradish mayonnaise on whole wheat. You order your food and give them your name, pick a lovely table either on the porch, or inside and your food is delivered within 10 minutes.

They also offer high tea. I've done this three times and have never been disappointed. This has to be reserved in advance. It is served in the mansion's library and is a lovely experience.

Come when the weather is nice, because you will want to take your food to the back porch and eat overlooking the great lawn and the Connetquot River. Prices are reasonable for sandwiches, soup, salads, and desserts, all of which looked great (we had the rum cake)! n.b.: this is inside the Bayard Cutting Arboretum, where there is a fee to enter, but it is a state park,so if you have an Empire Pass you don;t have to pay the parking fee.

We went here for Mothers Day. We had 2pm reservations for afternoon tea. We arrived on time and were told to wait and it'd be about 5 minutes till we could be seated. We sat on the chairs near the hostess and waited about 30 minutes, til we asked the hostess for an update. She said she called our name earlier. She must've whispered it because we were sitting not more than 5 feet from her. We were then seated. The wait staff did an amazing job, but we're rushing so quickly through the restaurant that it made our time there less than relaxing. The food was excellent and plentiful, with a beautiful presentation. Service was good. However, we were told (albeit, politely) we had to vacate our table shortly to make room for the next shift of reservations to be seated. Given that we were seated 35 minutes later than our reserved time, we didn't appreciate being rushed out. This is the 3rd time we've come for Mothers Day, but I'm not sure we'd do it again.

This is a great cafe in the middle of the Bayard Cutting Arboretum. The fare varies from tea and freshly baked pies to soup and sandwiches. Seating is indoor or out and is located right on the Connetquot River. Parking is tight and while it accepts the NY Empire Pass, it's a fun place to bike to (no biking on grounds though).

Nice atmosphere. Good fresh food. Yummy desserts. The girls are very friendly. You must sit on the porch and enjoy the views!
