“Great Experience ”

Apache Eagle Ziprider
Reviewed 8 January 2017 via mobile

This was a great experience, even if you have never been on a zipline before. The views are amazing. Overall it is just as advertised. It does take a while to get through the whole process so plan on spending 2-3 hours there. The guides were friendly and we had a blast. The only thing that was different was that the video (you can watch it on their site and will have to watch again before you suit up) makes it sound like you can stop on the line and enjoy the view however, the long zip would be the only opportunity to do that and the guides specifically tell you not to slow down because you could get stuck. Would have been nice to stop and look around or at least slow down to see everything. Make sure you have some eye wear on (goggles or sunglasses) and dress warm.

This was a fun experience overall and I would recommend it to anyone traveling in the area that is not in a hurry. Employees were friendly and helpful and views were spectacular.

I would suggest pre-planning to make the trip a little more enjoyable. You can watch the training video online but it can be difficult to find, however, it will save you time.

The negative about this ride is that it was disorganized as others have stated. Our group of 4 arrived at 0915 for our 1000 reservation. We were asked to come back later as we were early. We went back to the check-in desk around 0940 only to find out that 12 people had checked in before us and were already moving forward. Ok, no big deal, but then the gear hut was helter skelter with not much organization. We did managed to get our gear and then got in the training line only to be delayed again. Completed the training and were on our way to the gondola when we found out that 6 people that had 1000 reservations had just arrived at 1030 and we would have to wait for them. Really? What was advertised as a 1.5 hour experience turned into a 3 hour experience. Not that big of a deal, however, we did have plans back in Ruidoso that we were delayed for.

Bottom line, fun activity to do but be prepared for a potential delay.

Was a little disappointed in the amount of staff working. Told it would take total of 90 min but ended up being 3+ hours. Was it work it? Have to say yes. Was told it is the highest zip line in the world and longest in the US. Gear was in good condition, our staff guide were informed and skilled. Was a crazy ride for an older fellow but I would do it again.

WHOA, wether riding or watching, this is the ride to try out. From the top of a mountain, across the lake to the Inn of the Mountain Gods is one exhilarating ZIP! Worth the time to try something different, I.e. FLYING over Lake Mescalero!!

4 of us, ages 62-69. One prior Zipline experience. Very good equipment, staff was excellent, fun, knowledgeable, and safety conscious. 3 stages, 1st was the longest, 1 mile took 80 seconds. Other two took 40-50. Total ride time was 3 minutes, plus the gondola ride up the mountain. Great views, God rush on the way down. Maybe a tad too conservative on instructions about where to start breaking. They weigh you on a scale before allowing you to belt up, so no cheating. Now the bad / /
They were understaffed, under equipped. Our 11 am reservation was bumped to an 11:45 group, after a mandatory movie, we had to wait for equipment to be turned in before our enlarged group could be fitted out. It was after 1 PM by the time we were gathered for the ride up Sierra Blanca. Because of the size of the group, each stage took a long time, despite the best efforts of the guides. We didn't turn our gear in until after 3:30PM. So about 3 hours for 3 minutes of Zipline.
Again, staff was excellent, view and mountain was excellent, ride was fun. Plan to get there at least 30 minutes early, access is on a 2 lane, no passing, 25 mph mountain road from Ruidoso, allow travel time.
Probably wouldn't do it again if we had to wait so long between rides.
