I'll admit, I'm jaded. I've gone to great Brazilian places. Plataforma, in NYC, is amazing. There are several others, as well.
But Rio Rodizio was good, and for Union County, I'd say it's a value. It's not too expensive and the food is value fo the price paid. Not inexpensive, but not out of a reasonable price range. Food is about what you'd expect for the price and service is excellent.

Why? Because I had read other reviews that said food was bland, food was salty, salad bar wasn't fresh, price was too high. I must have hit it on a good night, Saturday at 5 PM. Party of six. The food was very tasty, nothing was bland, the choices were very good, many types of beef, chicken, lamb, pork, ham and sausage served the way you liked it, from rare to well done, your choice. The only salty items were supposed to be salty and they were delicious. If you are on a low salt diet, when they are brought around, don't have them as there are more than enough other choices. As to the salad bar, everything was very fresh and the choices were too great to even count, from hot to cold to sushi. Could not have asked for more. As to the price, $37 might sound high for the Rod. dinner including salad bar so come hungry and you will get more than your money's worth. Really, go to another restaurant of equal quality and choice and you will spend $10 to $15 for an appetizer and $21 to $30 for a main course, same $35 to $40 for dinner and at another restaurant you only get one appetizer and one main course. Here you have a big selection of both and you can eat as much as you like. You get a good bang for your buck at Rio 22.
Throw that in with excellent service, I mean friendly, smiling, helpful, accommodating and conscientious, filling your water glass constantly, checking if you need another drink, what more could you ask.
So why only 4 stars, the one complaint voiced by other diners, high noise level from the blasting music. I like music as much as the next person, but too loud is just too loud. Modulate the the music and I elevate this to 4 1/2 to 5 stars.
Yes, I would and will return.

Wanted something different then your average steak and potatoes. Passing through Union NJ and stopped in Rio 22. Always wanted to eat at a Brazilian restaurant where they served you table side. The food was delicious, however I thought it was dry and a little bland. Also thought a little overpriced. However it was a beautiful decor and the staff was pleasant.

They changed practices. Rodizio is only for dinner. Any other time, it's sushi, entree or "buffet" only.

Please note that buffet to them = 4 meat choices, rice, beans, steamed veggies & a sad salad bar.

Their dinner rodizio includes grilled pineapple & baked cheese bread on their rodizio skewers as part of their rodizio selections.

Lost a repeat diner. Proceed with financial caution.
