We went here for our first anniversary for the over water villas. What we got was something we never imagined. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left it was perfect. So perfect we almost don't want to go back and ruin our memory of the vacation. We arrived late at night and we taken to the island by boat right away, once we arrived we were greeted and driven to our villa. The place was so quiet as if there was noone else on the island. All you could hear was the sea and the sound of the electric vehicle brining you to your villa. We got an villa at the end of the jetty, one of the residences which are bigger and more private. Once we got there, our dinner was ready as requested, our Mr. Friday gave us a quick intro to the room and left us be. The place was gorgeous from the bedroom to the bathroom to the glass on the floor which lets you see the fish swim by. All the requests I made in advance were done even better than I had imagined. The food was fantastic and in good filling servings. The next morning was even more beautiful. You can walk down your private stairs from the bathroom straight into the water or go out onto your private sundeck and see nothing but ocean. We requested 2 bikes to explore the island, which is rather thin so it doesn't take long to get to the other side where the restaurant and activities are. Walking around with no slippers is no problem except when the sand or the jetty is hot from the sun, there's always a nearby pot of water to the area. The lagoon surrounding the island is amazing, you can walk out so far and swim with the fishes, in the distance you can see where the waves break and the vast ocean beyond. The beach by the restaurant is good for swimming and there's also a swimming pool. The breakfast has so many choices and is very elegant. I recommend you try everything. The restaurant over the water is a nice place for lunch. Their pizzas are especially delicious. There are plenty of activities to do around the island if you can't get enough of the villa, kayaking, parasailing, snorkeling, scuba and other activities are available. All the staff on the island is very friendly and will gladly assist you. Our Mr. Friday was very accommodating even for our requests at odd hours of the night. We had a dinner on the beach and a private barbeque, it was very dark and the moon and lit up the sky, very romantic, and the cook stays a bit away so your privacy isn't interrupted. We also had dinner at the wedding place which was accessible via boat and had been setup very nicely for just me and my wife. We left extremely happy and wished we didn't leave. The service is the best we have ever experienced and for any similarly priced resort, the service should be nothing less than what they offer at Soneva Gili. It is a bit pricey but you will not disagree when I say it is worth every penny and more. Next time we want to try the Robinson Crusoe villa that can be reached by boat only. We hope to return soon and have another unforgettable experience.More
