This zoo is wonderful. You pay15 dollars for parking but it's free to get in. We went to the City Museum the day before and were not impressed. We would much rather go to the zoo.

This zoo has large variety of animals and is designed well so that you feel like you are close enough to really see the animals. We were pleasantly suprised that it was free (sure you have to pay to park) but it was more affordable than some other big zoos around the country.

We've been here a couple times, still love it. Was raining, so the crowds were minimal. Animals were still out. Suggest you take the train so you can see the elephants.

Don't let the price - FREE - of this world-class zoo lower your expectations. I've visited quite a few zoos across the country, and have found none any better. Walk into the giant 1904 World's Fair bird cage, walk under swimming sea lions, hear lions roar, be splashed by penguins so close you can almost touch them, watch gorillas play, and view elephants from several angles in a habitat sized to fit them ... and more and more. There is a small charge for visiting the Children's Zoo, riding the train all around the zoo, viewing the show in the 4-D Theater, petting and feeding the stingrays in Caribbean Cove, riding the carousel, and watching the sea lion show, but you can buy a per person pass that will cover seeing all of this at one low cost. Even if you don't opt to see the special ticketed activities, you'll have a hard time just seeing the rest of the zoo because there's so much. Parking is a bit pricey, $15 per car, but, remember, the zoo is FREE! There's is a lot of street parking, and, if you don't mind walking, the Forest Park Visitors' Center parking lot almost always has available spots for free. During the summer, the zoo can be quite crowded, but on Sunday mornings when the zoo opens at 9 AM, you'll probably find few or no lines. Also, rain and other unpleasant zoo-visiting weather lowers the head count. There are lots of inside things to see - such as the birds, the bugs, and the butterflies. My favorite time of year to visit the zoo is in winter when crowds are quite small and animals tend to be more active. You can probably tell that I'm a big fan and long-time member supporter of the St. Louis Zoo. The best part is, I can visit often, because I'm less than 30 minutes away form this fabulous attraction.

It was our fault going when it was rainy. We did get parking for free on street which probably would not be available in fair weather. The zoo was free and we wandered best we could considering the weather. The giraffes seem to be gone as are several other birds and animals. It is probably very pleasant in good weather for a small size zoo.
