We stayed at Ubuntu for 2 nights in April and absolutely loved it. The whole property is very tastefully done; the ocean view rooms on the first floor were spacious, well appointed and had a wonderful view of the sea. The service is excellent, a special mention goes to Mr. Lenora, the property manager who regularly made sure we were comfortable.
I also had one of the best kottus I've had in Sri Lanka at their sister hotel which is a hop down the beach - all our meals at the restaurant were great!.
Overall, would highly recommend this hotel to any one planning on taking a beach vacation.

During our 10 days in Sri Lanka with no doubt that was the best hotel we stayed. We were actually at the Villas and not the hotel, which felt private and full of luxury. We had a sea view room and they were amazing. Having a shower looking at the sea is just perfect. The staff was also extremely accommodating and helpful, nothing was too much and we felt truly special.
We went for a bbq dinner at the hotel, which is 2 min away and that was ok, but nothing outstanding so do go into town/ beach for some great seafood.

We arrived and they put us
In the villa Amour instead of Ubuntu which was 10mn walk away on the beach from the main restaurant at the Lantern hotel. We managed to change for The 2nd night.
The beach is beautifull but you cannot swim because of waves, very deep sea after a few meters and current which are very strong (normaly I swim anywhere and surf so this is not
A problem for me but there it was impossible and dangerous)
The restaurant is not what you wish for this upscale hotel, it looks like an all inclusive buffet type food (overpriced 60$ for 2 ppl for average food compare to all the other delicious food we had in Sri Lanka) the Sharavi villas next to
It has a really nice restaurant
Style and cuisine.
Nevertheless the staff is very nice and attentive. They are always smiling and want you to have a good time.
Our ocean view room with bathtube was very nice and the Ubuntu is very beautifull house.
Just do not expect to swim like you will in Unawatuna or have amazing food.

Massage and mani-pedi are amazing book with Ani she is the best!

Management response:Responded 19 April 2017

Dear valued guest,

First of all let me thank you for your valuable comments which we have taken up very seriously.

We do not have buffets at the Lantern, except one dinner on every Friday the special
Sea Food BBQ on the pool side, due to a very popular demand by some of our repeat guests. Even though we serve the Seafood BBQ on the pool side, we don't force anyone to have that and still the A 'la Carte dishes are served on clients requests.
Unfortunately on that particular night our main restaurant became very busy due to many clients coming from out side. I remember that night, some even had to stay waiting for few minutes, until they got a seat available. This was a rare occasion but shows how our restaurant and food are so popular amongst the people in the area.
So far, Lantern has got very high ratings on the quality of the food served and in addition very high demand for this particular Seafood BBQ which has got even Lobster on the grill, with the concept of "Eat as much as you like".
Nevertheless, we have taken your comments in a very positive manner and will look in to the ways of improving our food and service standards, in order to serve you better in your next visit to Lantern.
Thank you once again and look forward to seeing you again at the Lantern soon.

The hotel is located 5min west of Mirissa at a small, beautiful beach. In 100m distance is the main hotel where breakfast is served and where you can have good dinner.

The hotel is very modern, the rooms chic and large. Bathroom with freestanding bathtub and a 'raindance' shower. Air-conditioned, of course.

Two small, but fine pools are directly at the house. Several sun loungers invite you to sunbathing.

Service is always close by.

Prices quite tidy with e.g.. $ 5 for a corona and $ 2 for water.

Breakfast very good all inclusive except water, which is feels "cheap" compated to the overall luxury appeal.

All in all very nice and 4.5 points.

The last 0.5 points will come if management would improve:
- The bathroom and floor window should be coated from the bottom to about 3/4 to the top with a milk glass foil. Then one would also have daylight and would not be seen anyway. Even better would be pleating operable from above and below.
- Water should be included at least for breakfast, even better 1-2 bottles per person per day which prob. will not cost the world and could be safely included in the price.

Woww is the word that comes to mind when you visit this place.
Calm serene and full of solitude.. Must visit for all sea lovers.. The villas are tastefully done and opens into the beach.... You could chose to soak yourself in their sea facing pools or just relax with a book in their hammock which also gives you in interrupted sea view.. Their spa is also a fab experience and ideal for a chilled out vacation
