This pub was a great find. It’s listed in the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide and The Good Pub Guide etc.
We ate lunch there as a group of about 12 people (walking group). We had parked at the pub before starting our walk, and pre-ordered our food, so that when we got back there, everything was pretty much ready to serve as soon as we got our drinks.
The menu is full of pub classics ranging from c£12-£14, and there is also a specials board including things like loin of venison.
The home-made steak and kidney pie was fabulous. Lovely short-crust pastry, plenty of steak and kidney, and served with lots of gravy. There was a choice of potatoes to go with it and it also came with some cabbage. If I had a criticism, it’s that there could have been more veg.
There’s a variety of ales, and they also do prosecco by the glass.
The service was good.
