Has this changed since we last visited - apart from the history, the gardens, the artwork - they now have a proper restaurant and WHAT a restaurant. Sitting on the patio looking down the garden to the city is what Sunday lunches for the "well-to-do" are all about, are they not?! The size of the meals? - I am pretty good on the fang but even I was hard-pressed to finish the meal and it was scrumptious. Just book and go peeps and you will have forfilled one life's ambition. (it IS one, it's just that you don't know it is!)

We had visited Carrick Hill some years ago and had enjoyed the tour. The staircase and wooden panelling is wonderful and really adds to the place’s feel. What I had not realised from the earlier tour was that the staircase originally just went up where as it was redone as a double version.

The reason for our visit was the Streeton Exhibition on show there. It was a small collection but worth visiting if only to see his Green and Gold painting – it is wonderful.

We then had a coffee and a walking in the heritage orchard. It is a wonderful idea but it is sad to see that the trees were suffering with neglect. The trees needed a good watering and the various suckers removed from around the main trunks. The signs which were once in evident are now often missing.

So while the house is nice, they need to do something about the orchard.

We last visited this property in 2014 but it was again on our list to revisit on our trip to Australia. The property is a pleasure to walk around knowing that the staircase and wood panelling and some furniture came from another historic home in the UK. You can imagine Chrusrmas and formal meals within the dining room which retained a family ambience. This was my favourite room. There is also an excellent cafe area with seating overlooking the formal gardens. Try the picnic platter with a pear cider. Lovely treat on a hot summers day.

We decided that it would be interesting to show off this little bit of England to a visitor from Thailand. Not only could we show off the fabulous views of Adelaide from the traditional English style garden but we could also include a visit to the house to view the transplanted oak paneling and staircase. We were also fortunate in the the current exhibition was Stretton...both paintings and sketches.
Iced coffee and Eggs Benedict satisfied empty tummies and the coffee was good. Service was friendly and helpful

The gardens, food at the cafe, the house and the tour were all wonderful. If I lived in Adelaide a picnic lunch in the gardens would be on my agenda often. The gardens are free, only the tour and food at the cafe take your money - your choice. Otherwise it can be a free day out
