We really enjoyed the Picturing Mississippi art gallery. It was beautiful in every way. It was so well placed, every piece. I would love to keep going back each time the gallery is changed.

It is always a pleasure.

Jackson, the place between Memphis and New Orleans, the home of the Levi and Nissan factory has so so so much more to offer. And here it is. A world class gallery space, beautifully designed and laid out and a complete surprise as it is full to bursting with art of the highest standard.
The collection is insightful and informative and neatly reflects the turbulent and blood soaked past of Mississippi.
I came away moved and disgusted in equal measure as mans inhumanity to man seemingly knows few boundaries, but Mississippi is a resilient State and this is reflected in the investment in this place. And what made my visit perfect was the collection of works from the kids... here is hope and great talent which will hopefully seal Mississippi's future.
Theres a great shop and restaurant onsite too. I will be back!
VERY highly recommended.

This museum is so underutilized because the public does not realize what a jewel this community has in its mists.
There are always top notch exhibits

Bicentennial exhibit of art made by Mississippi artists or in Mississippi. There are two original James Audubon oil paintings. We are accustomed to seeing prints but the oil paintings are fabulous. I've waited decades to see the only know landscape by Audubon. It's owned by the museum in Greenville, SC but not displayed. However, they were kind enough to loan it to the Mississippi exhibit. Many other great artists. And, the exhibit is free. It's a small museum but we stayed 4 hours, which included eating a Mississippi catfish lunch, which included a salad first course, for $10.00.

Over the last 10 years, My wife and I have now paid our third visit to this museum. This time we were blessed to see a temporary exhibit of the paintings and ceramic figurines of Mildred and Karl Wolfe, a notable Jackson couple in their day.

Their paintings are magnificent and we were very impressed. Their daughter still manages a studio in the Jackson area which makes ceramic bird figurines. In the museum gift shop we bought one of the birds plus a couple of other items.

This is a moderately-sized art museum featuring mainly Mississippi artists which I think you will enjoy a great deal.
