I spent about two hours at the Winona county Historical Society and learned a great deal about the Winona area from it's inception to present day. The exhibits are arranged chronologically and depict every day life as well as the development of businesses and agriculture. The special exhibit of furniture made by regional artists was unexpected and quite beautiful.

The Winona County Historical Society is in a large building downtown with a big display area, plus modern meeting rooms and a classroom, and historical archives. They Society also runs a number of history-based events in town throughout the year. The $5 admission charge is well worth it. You can spend an hour or two there walking around, seeing the exhibits, and getting a real feel for the early days of Winona. In keeping with Winona's reputation as The Stained Glass Capitol of the U.S., there's a beautiful stained glass window that depicts many important aspects of the city.

Stopped for a break from a long drive and found this gem.
Be warned you will learn things about life and the region if you bother to READ. The museum staff has compiled great captions to their displays.
When there in July 2017, there was a great display of locally made fine furniture.

Not at all crowded when we were there on Saturday, 6/11, so we could spend as much time as we wanted viewing the exhibits. Well presented history with emphasis on agriculture, industry and life in the Winona area. A small display of local memories of WW2 which was done well. And the time line walk on the 2nd floor was interesting. Was well worth the time spent and gave us things to talk about on the drive home.

Excellent county history museum with exceptionally good artifacts displayed both by topic on the main floor and also a timeline. around the balcony The signage on some older exhibit is too small (typewriter size) for some of us to read, but the objects are well worth viewing.
