Friends and I were not sure if we were going to head to Mission Beach or not, but we are glad we did. After a hectic few weeks travelling up the coast this was a great stop to relax, chill and enjoy the laidback lifestyle. That doesn’t mean we didn’t have some fun. They have a bar onsite which is really cool and not like anything I’ve seen before. It’s called a jungle Bar and for good reason, it’s in the jungle. We hit each night and had s great time with other guests and staff who all seemed to be having a great time.
The hostel itself is pretty cool and different too. Set literally in the jungle it’s has incredible views and amazing surroundings. As you can expect we had a few mosquitos but nothing Insect repellent could’t sort out. Any,way it’s in the jungle so it’s to be expected and didn’t really bother us.
All in all I definitely recommend this place for the experience, location and really friendly atmosphere provided by the staff.
Thumbs Up!

Perfect little getaway to relax and have a brake from the East Coast craziness. Such a cool place, middle of the jungle. We just relaxed by the pool and in the hammocks, just what we needed. We had few beers at the bar, while couple of kangaroos jumped passed us. Felt like I was on a holiday from my traveling.

Unique hostel in a beautiful surrounding. Kitchen is nice and clean, and they even sell few convenient store items in the reception. Staff was super friendly and nice. Sam from the reception took the time and showed us all the facilities.

We don’t understand all the good reviews. The hostel atmosphere is dead and everyone seems to be bored. There is no entertainment offered, not a TV room or anything so all you can basically do is chill at your phone because the wifi works well. The fan in the room was either running like crazy, being too loud for the night, or it didn’t work at all - which made sleeping quite difficult. We also found it quite noisy in the evening, this is the only hostel where we couldn’t fall asleep.
The kitchen facilities are fine but we couldn’t cook anything because the supermarket is closed on Sundays and we arrived on Saturday evening. On weekdays, you can take like two or three shuttles to the supermarket a day. Walking to the beach takes about half an hour but it isn‘t Mission Beach - so there is no stinger net.
The shuttle from the Greyhound busstop upon arrival worked fine for us but we heard from others that they had to wait for an hour for the shuttle to come back because it was full.

Another downside are the mosquitoes. We stayed on a campground on Fraser and in other mosquito-populated areas before so we don’t mind it that much, but it was just crazy at Jackaroo. We got a dozen bites when checking in and had to reapply insect-repellent all the time and still got many bites - so be prepared for this!

Our highlight of the two days was the Bingil Bay Cafe located 25 mins walking from Jackaroo, which offers a 15€ deal for hostel guests which was really great. There are no other cafés or restaurants nearby.
In the end, we left earlier and let one night expire because we were so bored there.

So, it might be a good place for you if you are planning to go skydiving and just relax there in the afternoon but otherwise we cannot recommend anyone to stay there.

The greyhound shuttle takes you in about 20 minutes to the hostel. You arrive in the middle of nowhere and the Woolworth is closed on sundays. The reception sells food and water, but not on reasonable prices, e.g. a bottle of 0.5 l water costs 2 Dollars. The bathrooms are not really clean and we didn’t feel comfortable in them. There is no possibility to hang anything in the shower. Our double room was right next to the toilets, and we could hear the door slamming all night. You could also hear the people next door because of the thin walls.
The pool and the views are nice but there are no sun lounges or chairs available.
The kitchen is really nice, spacious and clean. The offered free breakfast would have been nice, but there was neither enough milk nor bread so it was basically pointless. That is especially annoying if you are staying so far from a supermarket.
The free shuttle is nice, but it only takes you six times a day (2 times to Woolworth), which can be annoying if you have to plan your whole day around it.
The beach that is close (25 minutes walk) by does not have a stinger net, so one would have to walk about an hour to swim in the ocean.
If you stay there you need to reapply mosquito spray at least every hour because they are really out to get you.
All in all we wouldn’t like to stay again. If one wants to stay there make sure to not arrive on a Saturday evening or Sunday or have groceries beforehand.

This hostel is very unique as it sits in the Rainforest a little way off the main part of town. It has a nice pool and view over the forest. It has a shuttle to take you to most places as it’s too remote to walk but they leave frequently. Being in the forest, there’s plenty of bugs, but the common areas have good fans and air circulation. Bring bug spray for hikes and beach trips. The dorms air/con didn’t work well and the private didn’t have air/con at all, so it does get hot at night trying to sleep. Overall, it’s a unique way to spend in Mission Beach. I would stay here again.
