Really simple, nice and tidy place to stay. Tranquil, silent, close enough to MahaBodhi Temple... read more
RI is truly a leading example of an institute embodying altruism and offering others a safe space to grow deeply in peace. Thank you to all you are co creating its wonder.
Even to non residential guests the root insinuate offers morning meditation sessions that are really light but touching and positive. Highly worth the way there (the Institute is a good walk out of town centre)
For retreating and meditating the Root Institute is great especially friendly to westerners it offers courses, retreats and teachings in Tibetan Buddism. The food and accomadation are good as well.
Just short visit , but never the less very nice .
A place to study and follow courses.
The atmosphere is peaceful...and not too far from the center of Bodhigaya
I stayed at the Root Institute for three nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately my time lines didn't live up with their meditation breakout sessions, but just sitting on the couch outside the dining area, under the shadow of Lord Gautama was SO therapeutic and peaceful! No photos or blogs can describe the feeling.
The place is a mile away from town, but you can easily get there with a INR 20-30 rickshaw ride.
Given that the actual town of Bodh Gaya is a filthy, fetid dump, being away from town is not an inconvenience, but a real blessing.
There are a lot of long-term foreign (mainly European) residents there. It's very inspiring to see how motivated they are to leave everything in their home countries and dedicate their lives to Buddhism and meditation.
The staff there - from Inder at the front office to the Director, the cooks, cleaners - are all so friendly and welcoming. I will definitely go back - time and Silicon Valley life's commitments permitting.
I had a wonderful time here in Root Institute towards the end of my trip when I attended the Taste of Tibetan Buddhism course. The course was really an eye opener for me. I found that the teachings really spoke to me and I learned so much from it. The grounds and buildings are wonderful and very atmospheric. The whole place gave me a wonderful sense of peace and wanting to learn. I really enjoyed it. The food was also excellent.
One word of warning for those wishing to attend this course - the learning is quite intensive and I was exhausted by the end of each day. So this isn't the right place if you just want to learn a little, you need to want to learn a LOT!
