Stayed at the MGM after buying tickets to a show at the Masonic Temple. Very nice room with an incredible shower. Room was clean and very comfortable. Played a little at the casino and enjoyed a bite at one of the restaurants. Would definitely stay again and would highly suggest. Taxi ride to the MT was 8$.

Interesting! We have gone to Detroit for many trips. Probably 8 years of Thanksgiving trips. And this ranks as one of the most interesting. Why you say? Because we stayed at the MGM Hotel and Casino.

Normally we stay at the Westin or Holiday Inn. They are closer to the parade route. We party Thanksgiving Eve, get up Thanksgiving morning and walk the parade route to the Lions football game. Great 3 for 1 weekend!

This time, because I got a great deal on the rooms a few months ago, we decided to try the MGM.

Good things:
Easy access to expressway.
Great rooms in a NICE hotel.
Gambling (if that’s your thing).
Close to Lions Game Site - Ford Field

Bad Things:
No place to eat or drink except the casino (which allows smoking)
No casual place to sit and have a drink if you don’t gamble. If you sit at the bars in the casino they want you to gamble or give up your seat at the bar.
Food except at one restaurant was expensive.. I am okay with that, but my wife eats like a bird, and a steak for $65 ala carte is a waste on her.

Overall: an interesting weekend with nice people who are there to have a good time.Nice hotel.

Stayed for a weekend away to see a show at the Fillmore. Room was ready slightly ahead of check-in time, which was nice. Room was nice, clean, and comfortable: no complaints. We are not gamblers but took a walk through the casino and had a drink at the bar, which was fun, but definitely a different experience when smoking is still allowed inside. Being a non-smoking couple, the smell was ever-present and impossible to ignore. We managed to find a corner seat in the bar far enough away from anyone smoking that we were able to enjoy our drinks, but I am definitely thankful that the days of smoking inside anywhere else are over. This also dissuaded us from choosing to eat in any of the restaurants on site. We easily walked down to find a restaurant and to the Fillmore theatre with no issues. Ordered room service breakfast in the morning which we really enjoyed (french toast and a made-to-order omelette). Overall it was a fun experience. Oh and Christmas decorations around the lobby were a nice touch!

We have stayed at MGM Detroit several times and each time their personnel and hotel are 5 star. From the valets, check in desk and housekeeping it is apparent that they have the customer in mind. I wish there were more places for a quick breakfast but overall great getaway.
One big plus....security in lobby checking room cards and preventing non guests from being in Hotel.

Overall our stay was very nice..very over priced but nice. On our first nights stay we had to be moved due to air conditioner noice in the middle of the night. Unfortunately we were moved to a similar room but not the floor we were promised. No apology or offers of discounts for the inconvenience.

Room Tip: Better view from upper floors.
