We wound up here on a cold blustery weeknight when we discovered our first-choice restaurant was temporarily closed. It’s close by but we hadn’t eaten here in over a year – our sense was the restaurant had become a victim of its own success – our recollection had been the food wasn’t particularly good the last few times we brought home carry out. This time, however, we were most impressed with everything: the chicken satay appetizer was superb (excellent quality chicken, perfectly cooked, both sauces were spot on), the two entrees we ordered were fresh, filled with bright vegetables and cooked to perfection. The hot jasmine tea hit the spot. Because of the weather, the place was just about half-full and we appreciated being able to talk without having to raise our voices, which is often the case in DC area restaurants. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. We will put Ruan Thai back on our list of local favorites. We hope they are able to put out a good meal even when the place gets crowded. We shall see!
