Description: Welcome to A ESTRELA DA MÓ! The restaurant opened in May 31th, 2008, in Vila nova de Poiares, with the purpose to combine the traditional food, taste and personalize service. Our restaurant has a high standard service and a top quality menu and it can be prepared to any event planed in advance. "A Estrela da Mó" is a family business and is surrounded by a comfortable and rural ambient, with a room for 85 person. This establishment is one of the oldest in the village, it's been always know has "A Mó". When the restaurant open, i've decided to keep the name and add my mother's name, ESTRELA, becoming the name that everybody knows these days. All of our specialties have a great meaning, for example the barbecue chicken "Armandito" is dedicated to my father, because he worked on the grill in another restaurant about 30 years. Other specialties are the "Naco na Telha", a tender peace of veal meat on the grill, "Bacalhau á Estrela da Mó", "Bacalhau on the Corn Bread" and the regional "Chanfana". Along this years we have been awarded with some prizes, for example the "Best Chanfana 2012" by the Confraria da Chanfana, in 2013 we've got a "Honor Medal " at the national competition "Melhor Arroz de Portugal" (best rice in Portugal), and later in that year we got to the final of Schweppes Challenge, with a Gin and tonic with Red Fruit and wild Berry's , and now it's a apart of the history, so it's always available for our clients. In 2014 we've won the "Melhor Arroz de Portugal" with a Rice of Mushroom's and Wild Rabbit that we have on our menu, pre order hour before so we can prepare with more love.

The food is the best presented and most tasty that we had in Portugal on our holiday. This restaurant is so friendly and the staff work so hard to please. They speak perfect English but are helpful teaching a bit of Portuguese.
If you have one dish for main it has to be their special dish of fillet steak on a Roof Tile with fruits. It is just so tasty.
The menu is the best we saw with a huge variety: from 8in Prawns to Goat in fluffy balls for starter to every type of dessert you can think of. There are so many mains I didn't know which to choose. Great value and great Portuguese food with a difference.

Food is good and well presented. Traditional Portuguese dishes come with a twist. A real step up from the usual presentation and accompaniments. Portions are generous. We shared steak on the tile between us-plenty. Do not usually have dessert in Portugal-too eggy and samey. Always have a dessert here. Very comfortable tables and chairs. Service is good and house wine good value and quality.

For Portugal this is already a more expensive restaurant. Compared to Belgian restaurants, it is cheap. The food was so good, we went there twice. First we took the cheese as starter, than the porc and beef on a "telha". Quality of the meat was great, portions enormous, the taste excellent. You don't need a sobremesa after a meal like that.
Second night we started with a plate of cold cuts, after that my girlfriend took the porc again, I took the octopus. Excellent again.
Excellent winelist as well. And great and friendly service.
Count on € 50 for 2 persons in total: first courses, second courses, bottle of wine, coffee.

Thank Cedric C
