We returned to stay with these lovely people again and had again a great time!
Stayed for three nights on our way to Mt Bromo this time. Enjoyed the house, their company and their "extended family". Had a great Indonesian and European breakfast. Arranged a massage for the last evening. Don't forget to book their yummy Rijsttafel for one of your nights!

My husband and I decided to spend five full nights at the Sawah after seeing the gorgeous photos on the Air BnB website and reading all the rave reviews. We couldn’t have been happier with the decision. The villa itself is absolutely gorgeous. The open-air terraces, fish pond, and Indonesian décor totally transport you into an authentic experience for your trip. The room is small but it has a large bed and great air con.

Breakfast—a choice between Western and Asian each morning—was absolutely delicious and an amazing value. And the option to have dinner at the Sawah rather than going into town (which we chose to do twice) was incredibly convenient and delicious. The rice dinner deserves all the acclaim it gets on TripAdvisor, and even the simple dinner they prepared for us on our arrival night was absolutely fantastic.

And even with a gorgeous setting and delicious food, the best part of the Sawah is its hosts. Wim is a natural born host to say the least. He treated us to wonderful stories about Jogja’s history while we had downtime, provided maps, brochures, and recommended walking guides to help us make the most of our time in the city, and even volunteered to show us around some local villages that he knows well. Phillip is an incredibly talented designer and chef and wonderful to talk to about his experience growing up in Indonesia. We now consider them friends and can’t wait to return to Yogyakarta in the future and stay at the Sawah again. It truly goes above and beyond your typical accommodation experience.

We looked at a "place with a difference" to stay while visiting Yogyakarta and found this tucked away in the rice-fields.
We felt at home from the moment we were welcomed to "The Sawah"
The house is beautiful, clean, has a good bed, private bathroom and a lovely breakfast. Everything you would want from a B&B.....But it's hosts have more on offer. Both Wim and Phillip have/had interesting careers. They know their country and love to share this knowledge. They help you find the way around Yogyar. They know a great driver, they know where to shop, what to see and were to eat.
Finally I like to share that the village of Kasongan is well worth a visit!
We will be back!

We knew yogya is a buzzling town and we looked for a quiet place and we found here at the Sawah. We stayed in the only guest room the villa has and it felt not like a hotel at all.we had our private driver so the distance to the town and other places to visit was not an issue.the housd is decorated in Javanese style with some samples of the owner batik design.a small workshop is adjacent to the hotel with friendly staff.we cooked our own food but breakfast has enough variation, the single room with a double bed and bathroom are tidy and clean.if you look for quietness and can sort your own things easily by your self you are ensured a great stay.

Our stay with Wim and Phillip at The Sawah was certainly a highlight of our trip to Indonesia. The grounds and rooms are amazing. Phillip, Wim, and there small familial staff were extremely helpful.
The Sawah is just outside of the city so it is nice and quiet but it is close enough so that going into town is still very convenient.
They recommended an amazing driver named Suterman who took us to some of the temples as well as some amazing local eateries. It was great to have a guide who has lived in Yogya his wholel life. He was very friendly and took us to see many really incredible things that we would have never found on our own.
Breakfast every morning at The Sawah was great. There is a choice of Indonesian or Western breakfast both were delicious. We also did the Rijsttafel for dinner one night and it was fantastic. It was great way to try a variety of Indonesian dishes.
Overall we would highly recommend staying at The Sawah. Wim and Phillip have created a great laid back atmosphere in a beautiful setting.
