A very nice place for a family outing, particularly for families with smaller children. The water at this part of the Charente is very shallow and there are guards watching over your kids in one small area (make sure you check if they are present). Larger children (and adults) can rent canoes or stand-up paddle boards, can play 'beach' volleyball or take part of the activities organized during 'Ete actif' (summer months).

Fantastic trip last night. This is the Friday evening Kayak trip with the Canoe and Kayak club at Rejallant. First we had aperos in the lovely restaurant. The club staff are friendly and enthusiastic and we downed our drinks and then loaded our Kayaks into the Charente. The kids took a boat between them and enjoyed soaking us. We paddled up to some fresh water springs near Condac which are amazing, you have to jump in here to get the thrill of ice cold fresh water. The whole thing took two hours so it was nicely taxing but doable for kids aged 13, 11 and 9 and two unfit parents. Brilliant experience.

This location has grown from an empty restaurant and riverbank to a thriving well managed family attraction over the last 3 years.
The restaurant is open 7/7/in the summer and although not cheap has a varied and delicious menu.
The river bank (free entry year round) has an attendant during high season to monitor the deep part of the river where teenagers congregate, as well as shallow beach areas for toddlers.
The icing on the cake is the excellent service from the kayak hire hut. Sturdy kayaks to hire for trips to Barro (1 hr) or Verteuil (3 hrs). Great fun and an amazing view of the countryside and chateau. (The guys speak good English too!)

Condac, on the edge of Ruffec town, near Aldi, look for aire signs, you will go down lanes and pass a campsite, which I nearly pulled in to. Condac Aire ( Aire de Rejailant) is at the end of the lane. Plenty of FREE parking, we visited on a hot July day but wasn't too crowded. Sit by the river and read or just walk, there is an area rope off in the gentle flowing water for children and kayaking for others, fishing, paddling or just messing about on/in the water. Behind the bridge and islands there is a big football field/ play area, more parking and a couple of brick barbque so you can cook your lunch there (don't forget your fuel and sausages) people were making full use of them. We went to the Bar/ Restuarant in the afternoon where they serve hot and cold drinks and the most delicious ice creams,I believe you can get a fixe prix lunch for around 12-15 euros. If only there were places in England like this and all for free.

This Aire is close to the town of Ruffec and is a lovely tree shaded area next to a river with a weir. You can picnic by the river or rent a kayak and float down to Venteuil where the kayak company will pick you up and bring you back to your car. It has play equipment for children and a new restaurant.
