The old abandoned salt ponds here are now a refuge frequented by flamingos. Parking is in tight spots along the road. When we stopped, there were about a dozen birds close to the road. On driving by later there were none.

Always a pleasure. Sometimes it is difficult to spot the birds close up. Next spot is Sint Michiel, so if the flamingoes are shy here Sint Michiel is only a hop, skip and jump away.

We have seen flamingos in captivity in Dominican Republic and in Florida and didn't want to see that again. This, however is a natural sanctuary for these beautiful birds. Seeing so many in one place truly is a sight to behold, especially in the different shades of white to pink to a more orange color. Great for all ages to drive there in a rented car or to go with a tour guide, as I did. Lots of nice opportunities to get pictures without disturbing them.Highly recommend as you will also enjoy the other nature and scenery.

Stopped briefly to see the flamingos in there natural habitat. They are a little bit in the distance but my 200mm camera lens had no problems. There was a nice little spot on the side of the road where there was about 20 or so hanging out. Lots of pelicans flying around as well. Only 2 other people so it was really nice and quiet. If this is something you are really interested in you Might want to bring binoculars or a camera lens with some react. We took a few photos and watch them interact for a few minutes.
Also a little food truck style restaurant across the street. Which was very pricey. Seemed to have locals eating at. Neither was overly exciting.
