We've been going to El Rodeo for years, as well as the sister El Rodeo on the West Side of Zionsville, aka Whitestown, on Rte. 334 just east of I-65. A nice place for reliably decent to good food. If you want to ask for attention to something (it seems to be essential, almost everywhere, when ordering beans, refried or other, to ask "can the kitchen make sure the beans are HOT? ... temperature?"), then they'll try to accommodate you. This staff, like most others, appreciates it if one speaks any Spanish (or Spanglish) at all, so know the word for "hot" is Caliente.... As is often found, the shredded chicken for quesadillas, tacos, and more is very good, tasty and not too spicy (kids might like it). The salsa, in our opinion, is delicious. The tortilla chips seem always to be fresh, and, thank goodness, not heavily salted. For aficionados of Mexican food (like us, orig from Calif.), just know that what you know as a Chile Relleno is -- unless they've changed this -- going to have cheese AND some ground meat in it. To get the Chile Relleno with which you are more familiar, ask them if they have a chile poblano ... and confirm it has cheese, no meat. Prices remain reasonable. They have a
hard-working and positive crew -- very polite, friendly, and helpful. It gets VERY busy at high noon-ish and the area's usual suppertimes, so we prefer to go at slightly off times (supper at 7:45 pm or later). A very reliable place, especially if one is hungry. You'll leave full, for sure.
