My wife and i came to Chicago to catch a couple of shows. I regularly stay at Best Western Hotels (Platinum Member), the bed was very comfortable and the room was nice. What I did not like was every time we needed a towel or toilet paper we had to go to the front desk. The hot tub and gym area had no towels the whole time we were there. The complimentary breakfast area was tiny (no tables to eat at) and the selection of food was very limited.

I stayed here 11 months ago and again this past weekend.
Pros: Great location (for me) near buses and train. Clean room/bedding that was relatively quiet. Nice front desk and housekeeping staff. Free bottled water. Lobby and hallways recently renovated very nicely.
Cons: Toilet ran every 12-20 mins (old and needs replacing), one spotlight lamp next to bed didn't work. Light switch as you enter the room did nothing (turned on no lights). I tried them all and even moved the lamps to various outlets to see if it would work.
HVAC is old and loud, but kept the room a desired temp well. Water pressure was a little low, but temp was good. Breakfast was not as good as last year. The French toast was good, but there were only scrambled eggs one day and that is a stretch to call them that (clearly some powdered egg concoction with a weird texture). I don't eat hard-boiled eggs, but they were available every day. Cinnamon buns were good. Strawberry yogurt was not quite as good as the vanilla was last year. I heard parking was $39 a day (high) but I didn't have a car.
I'm sure I'll stay again as there aren't many other hotels in that neighborhood and I didn't want to be downtown.

Room tip: try to use the ramp and door to the left if you have luggage as there are 3 stairs down as soon as you enter the lobby main front door.

I highly recommend this hotel. It's in a nice section of the North Side of Chicago, about a 15 minute walk from Wrigley and an L train stop. My room (202) had a desk with office chair, large TV, microwave, Keurig, refrigerator, bureau and a large closet with lots of hangers and an ironing board and iron. Comfortable bed with four pillows and extra pillows in the closet. Nicely tiled shower and the hot water came up immediately. Towels and small bars of soap and bottles of shampoo were provided (you may want to bring a large bar of soap like I did). Also nearby is a large Jewel Osco supermarket that's open until 9 or 10 PM. It was easy to call a cab for the ride to O'Hare (which is about a 30-45 minute drive depending on traffic). Housekeeping is provided every other day. The photos online are accurate and up to date. I suggest visiting the Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum of Natural History, the Zoo, the Wrigley Field tour ($30), and "The Bean" sculpture (Google it!).

I really liked the ambience! It is a charming boutique, beautifully decorated and landscaped hotel. An oasis in a lovely neighborhood! The room was well maintained with fresh artwork and I liked the layout. Amenities were nice and all the staff I interacted with were pleasant and professional. The breakfast was plentiful and appealingly displayed. The neighborhood is very walkable with small shops and tempting restaurants and Wrigley Field is less than a mile away. Also good local bus and taxi service.

My daughter and her boyfriend live nearby on Stratford Place and were expecting a baby in the middle of September.

In a previous visit I noticed the hotels’ convenience to their apartment and so confirmed a stay there.

My daughter did a sit visit and found it to be a bit dated but adequate at the time.

I reserved an extended stay and picked it because it afforded the proximity to her that I needed in spite of that.

When I checked in it appears they were in the midst of an upgrade. Which was refreshing.

My room was well appointed with two tv’s ample seating and a work space and aside from the noisy air unit was quite comfortable. I had to turn the unit off because it was hard to sleep or work with the humming. The wifi worked well allowing me to remain connected to the office.

The housekeeper was efficient and kind. All staff encountered were kind and tried to be helpful.

The ladies at the front desk offered recommendations on various items but need to work on accuracy to minimize inconvenience, for example- the post office I was sent to did not offer counter service and was only a receiving center and one of the hair dressers I was sent to did not offer service for black hair. This did not impact my visit as I was able to figure out what I needed on my own. It adds value when you can trust the advice from the team who live and work in the area.

I enjoyed the breakfast ladies who made the coffee and stocked the food and also enjoyed chatting with the maintenance man who came to check on my ac unit.

I appreciated the convenience to most things as well.

We have a beautiful grandson now. I will definitely be back and highly recommend a stay at Best Western Plus, Hawthorne Terrace.
