The location is in walking distance to great restaurants, shopping and nightlife. We loved the decor, sophistication is the best description. Ensure that you make reservations in advance to the rooftop bar…it’s a VIBE.

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience with The Godfrey Chicago.

Check-in/ Check-out

Pros- The second girl at the desk was nice. They gave us water. When we checked out, it was easier than checking in.

Cons- Whew. We booked through Expedia. Usually when you book through Expedia, they will tell you the fees of your package that you pay upfront and whatever fees you pay at the check-in. We were told the fee was $67, which was the “resort fee” times the days we were there. When we go to check-in, the first girl told us the fee was $300 dollars! $300 dollars is much more than $67. We were EXTREMELY confused. The first girl told us it was for “incidentals, however, the fee quoted to us through Expedia was supposed to cover it. When we asked about it, the first girl kinda looked down upon our question.

We attempted to pay the fee, but the card declined. Know why? Because the hotel attempted to charge us this “fee” SIX times in a row, locking up the card because it looked like fraud!

After telling the first girl this (and showing her), she told us that she didn’t see anything on her side and we should contact the bank.

Mind you, the room itself was already paid for, in FULL, and the first girl was making it seem like we were liars and we should have known about all of this stuff.

While waiting for the bank to figure out what happened, we practically had to beg the first girl to hold our bags.

After calming down after the interaction, getting the bank to unlock the card and paying the “incidental fee”, we finally checked in.

However, after checking out and being home and waiting for our money back, they stiffed us $9 without an explanation.

The Room

Pros- The room was nice. We were on the 14th floor with stunning views of the Sears Tower, River North and downtown. The bed was nice, the furniture was great and the lights came on automatically when we came in the room. The bathroom was clean.

Cons- If you are differently-abled, the shower will possibly be dangerous for you. There was no rail in the shower, the shower basin was kinda slippery and the toilet was a Russian Roulette when it came to flushing. Sometimes it would flush on the first flush, other times it would take 3-4 tries.

The tv had a mind of its own. The remote wouldn’t always work. The TV itself was on a delay, so if you selected a channel, there was a literal 5-10 second delay.

Overall, I think that the Godfrey is a 2.5 star hotel disguised as a 4 star hotel.

I chose the hotel because its workers are organized. I chose well. The room was nice. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great. The front desk staff were very helpful. We had breakfast in the restaurant one morning and the service was excellent. Wifi was good and easy to connect to.

The staff was very rude. Three different guys that I spoke to at check-in, a point during my stay, and at checkout, we're all rude for no reason.
In addition, I was cornered and touched by strangers who were very drunk getting on the elevator, because the elevator opens directly into the middle of the bar on the 4th floor, so anytime I was riding the elevator in the evening, I always ended up having to stop for people who had no clue what they were doing and were very drunk, and who maybe ended up getting on the elevator and being obnoxious. Sometimes people we're calling the elevator unnecessarily, so the doors would open and you would just have to wait for a bunch of drunk people standing by the elevator to figure out that none of them were getting on the elevator. It was just unpleasant. The room was also not very well appointed, or thought out. There was literally no place to put my suitcase other than the bed, the light was out, and the coffee amenities were worse than what I've had it a Holiday Inn. It's just not worth it. There's so many hotels in chicago, and so many hotels in this area. We've stayed in a couple that are much better. Londonhouse on Michigan avenue at the river is a better option, and was actually cheaper for us.

Great spot, room nicely designed and great bed, but the the people at the desk could be a bit more helpful. They didn't seem like they "love" their jobs...didn't have a lot of energy or go out of their way.
