Our Pick

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Apr 18, 2024
This was our second stay. We always pick Midtown when we’re in town. It’s right next to BuckTown with many restaurants and bars within walking distance. There is also a small food mart beside the store to pick up snacks. We had a very nice sized room with a view of downtown Chicago. Nice bathrooms with plenty of water pressure. If you’re into exercise, this is the place for you. Pools (in and out), tennis, paddleball, equipment, and on and on. The building is primarily a sports facility. All the staff was responsive and friendly.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel in Midtown because it was near the apartment of our son, who was ill and needed our help. The hotel was great. Our room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Having access to the fitness center was a plus. I especially liked that the hotel restaurant had lots of healthy dishes on the menu. I particularly liked the farro salad and the shrimp salad. But best of all was the staff, especially in the coffee shop and at the front desk. They couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. We would absolutely stay here again.

This is my third time staying at this hotel and it will be the last. What a horrible experience. Stayed on the 4th floor and I heard (weights?) crashing above until 10pm. They started doing leaf blowing at 9:15pm each night around the pool area- called front desk and they didn’t answer until the 4th call. They charge a $45 resort fee per night which isn’t included anywhere detailed on their site and you don’t learn about it until you check in. The reason to stay here is the gym- previously the cost was $25 which is high, but $45 is excessive and the highest in all of Chicago- that’s a fact- check it out. The AC doesn’t really work and the rooms at excessively hot- it was over 85 degrees in Chicago May 31st and June 1st. The restaurant is very good and the service was top notch. The location isn’t close to the “L” and their service has really gone downhill. Learn from my mistake and AVOID this hotel and their $45 nightly “resort” fee.

Room tip: Really gone downhill and prices have gone up. $350 per night NOT including the resort fee

We were in town on business in March 2023 and planned to stay at the Hotel at Midtown for just over a week to try to squeeze in some sightseeing and workouts, but we ended up leaving several days early as soon as my last work meeting was over. The first room we received had a cracked window ledge that would intermittently vibrate very loudly at various frequencies and made sleeping impossible. While we did get a different room the following evening, changing rooms was a multi-hour hassle and required several phone calls and trips to the front desk and I honestly felt like I was a bother to the staff for having a complaint; we did not get to explore the city that afternoon as we ended up having to wait for hours to move our things. The second room had quiet windows, but as one of the other reviewers mentioned, the thermostats in the rooms do not appear to work and so we were freezing for the rest of our stay. Also, while we were aware that there is no breakfast provided, we were hoping to find breakfast items at the Grab and Go counter. Sadly, the underwhelming selection consisted of five or six pastries and a choice of coffees, with no option for something more substantial (unless you like salad-type items for breakfast). Maybe I'm picky, but for a hotel linked to an athletic club, it sure would have been convenient to have a healthy, quick, calorie- and protein-rich option to grab on the way to work or even after a workout. We ended up getting all our food elsewhere for our entire stay. To conclude, while we did get an apology for the first room and thankfully did not get charged any fees for leaving early, neither did we get any kind of incentive to continue our stay. Although from the beautiful website the concept of the hotel seemed genuinely intriguing and may be a good choice for some, unfortunately we cannot recommend the hotel and will definitely stay elsewhere the next time we're visiting Chicago.
Pros: Convenient location to downtown, access to gym on site and parking is included in price of room, unique decor, fast Wi-Fi, mini refrigerator in room
Cons: Rooms have inadequate maintenance, no temperature control in room, selection of leg workout machines at gym oddly lacking and ONLY 3 SQUAT RACKS (!), limited "grab and go" breakfast options, no microwave

Room tip: If you're a hotel guest, be mindful that staff is overwhelmed with gym members so you likely will not be a priority.

Thank you for feedback and choosing Hotel at Midtown as your Chicago destination. We would like to apologize for not meeting your expectations fully during our stay with us. We will look into issues with window in room you were staying in and relocated from in order to resolve this issue. I do see that you had multiple rooms which you requested to be on same floor in close proximity to each other- this way we had limited options for relocation as room we had to move you to was occupied and needed to be cleaned, room relocation is a flawless procedure if we have more choices to choose from for relocation. We do not advertise that breakfast items are a part of gran n go menu- apologies if you were misinformed. Credit of $170 was posted to your room prior to departing as a token of apology for room move on top of waived early departure fee( room and tax for night per each room). Microwave is located on level 5 as disclosed on amenity sheet provided at arrival together with other amenities we offer here on the property- again, apologies if you were misinformed but we are disclosing information about amenities when guests arrive.

We had a great staycation with our active teenagers. Great experience if you're looking for a unique upscale hotel with an incredible high end fitness center. We tried the boxing and yoga classes which were great and enjoyed massages at the spa. We'll be back. Great place for a fun weekend if you're into this kind of gym - hotel experience. Rooms were great to come back to for relaxing, everything is well done and very clean.
