Great Staycation!

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Nov 8, 2022
Great staycation! I went there for the weekend and it was fantastic. Love the styling of the rooms. Stayed on the 5th floor and could not hear any of the gym noises, well I could barely hear it but only if I really tried to listen for it. It was really just normal hotel noises. I was worried after reading some of the reviews, and even brought a noise machine and ear plugs just in case but I did not need them.

I had a mani/pedi and a massage at the spa and all were great. Check in was a little chaotic with all of the gym members but nothing horrible.

Great food and friendly staff, I would recommend this hotel.

Was not pleased with our experience. 1) Very confusing checkin process. No signs outside indicating where the hotel checkin is. There are a few 15 minute parking spaces by the entrance, which is where I parked temporarily to checkin and try to find out where the overnight parking was. After checking in, I came back to my car to find I had received a parking violation…how the heck does this happen when you are at a strange, unfamiliar hotel and just trying to checkin? Suggestion to management…maybe have a few parking spaces designated for guests checking in that aren’t limited to 15 mins. 2) If you want to sleep later than 6am, then definitely reconsider booking this hotel. You will be woken up by extremely loud smashing weights and fitness classes with pounding music, which reverberates the entire room, even if you are a heavy sleeper. Suggestion to management…maybe consider putting a note on website that lets people know AT THE TIME OF BOOKING that there are very loud workouts that start early in the morning. This was ridiculous and ruined our entire stay. Had we known, we would not have booked this hotel. 3) Keep in mind this is an athletic club. It is an athletic club more than it is a hotel and they do not cater to the needs of the hotel guests. The restaurant is open odd hours. They don’t open until 9am and are closed throughout the day. there is no room service. The food is good at the restaurant, but the service is extremely slow. After placing our order, we never saw our waitress again. 4) The pool was awful. Extremely overcrowded (mostly members and their families). It was packed full of people, literally stacked on top of each other. No room to swim or for kids to play. Way too crowded. 5) Maid service is available upon request. I figured if we didn’t need the room cleaned, they would at least take out the trash and replace the towels. Nope. These standard things need to be requested as well. I called the front desk and asked for service, which never happened. The next morning, I went to the front desk and personally requested the room to be cleaned, fresh sheets, etc. When we returned later that day, the beds were made, but the sheets were the same dirty sheets we’ve had our entire stay. They also did not replace the bottled waters, which they are supposed to do daily (included with the resort fee). I tried the vending machine, but the water was sold out. No room service and restaurant was closed. I had to beg for water at the front desk, which they finally brought up. 6) The TV lags and the words do not match up. I did try to nicely communicate our concerns, but was not addressed by staff, didn’t really seem to care. One person I spoke with wouldn’t get a manager, he said he could help me. He did offer to waive the resort fee for our stay ($75) and said he would personally make sure our room would be cleaned and would have fresh sheets…when we returned that night, we still had dirty sheets. Our room was not cleaned during our stay and we had dirty sheets the entire time. The resort fee was also never credited.

First off, there is no parking for people with disabilities. See photos. Then, there is no signage indicating the location of the “lobby” (when entering from the parking lot). Expressed my displeasure with the hotel manager who ran the desk when I eventually found the lobby 15 minutes later via crutches. She made a snide comment when I commented on the lack of handicapped parking. She then assigned me to room 431, which is the room FARTHEST from the elevator on the hotel floor. I then had to trek back to reception, where they magically found me perhaps the one accessible room (404). When reserving the room, I informed the hotel that I had limited mobility due to crutches. Received email confirmation that they could accommodate me. They did not. Far from it. When I checked out, one hotel employee, let the door slam on me as I struggled with luggage when leaving. The only 2 employees who were actually helpful were Henderson, who arranged a luggage trolly and should be managing the hotel, and Andrew, who was a health club employee who should be managing the operation.

All this for $400. This has no business pretending to be a hotel. And if I owned this hotel, I would fire the manager.

I'd give this place 10 stars if i could. The rooms were nicely furnished with moderns décor. The beds were pretty comfy had plenty of room in the room. We also had a nice very of the city. Check in was flawless and we were told to use any of the gym facilities. we immediately went to a spin class. My wife and i had never done a spin class so we took the opportunity to get in a ride. It was a neat experience. The next day we got up and went to the gym and did more of our own CrossFit style workout. The place had all the things you could possibly need for such a workout. it was really nice to have everything right there. My wife spent some time at the spa where she got to relax and enjoy a nice massage.

Terrible experience. We booked a hotel not a stay in a fitness club. The hotel reception has the looks, feel and smell of an entry hall to a public swim hall. The bar and restaurant on the second floor is busy with sweaty people relaxing after their workout. Glad we found a nice bar 2 miles away for dinner. No included breakfast either. Parking garage drew us here with our classic car, but it is frequented by all fitness club members so it’s semi public. Only positive was the room.

Thank you for your feedback. While we appreciate you choosing Hotel at Midtown as your Chicago destination we must say that transparency regarding our hotel is clear on every website we are currently listed in order to truly communicate that hotel is not a standard accommodation but a property designed for guests who don't enjoy basic hotel amenities but sees full value of Luxury Fitness Club they have full access to. Parking garage is a 6 floor, gated and secured with cameras location, as most garages parking privacy cannot be guaranteed while availability is always there, most if not all hotels in Chicago has issues with parking availability while our hotel supplies more than sufficient amount of. We apologize for not meeting your expectations but it seems as if your expectations were for standard hotel which our isn't.
