“Beautiful view.”
Review of Taravao Plateau

Taravao Plateau
Reviewed December 11, 2015 via mobile

Since trip advisor doesn't allow you to go back in time. I put my visit as February 2015. Honestly I have been here years ago. I have family on the islands and had visited them when I was a kid. My family took us around the island and as a last stop on the tour we stopped here.
The view is a must if you are visiting the islands. We were lucky to have excellent weather. December is a mostly wet time and cyclone prone time to visit. I would love to come back and show my sons the beauty of the islands.

The place itself is ok. It is one of the few attractions in Tahiti-Iti/Taravao, and you will have panoramic views of Tahiti-Nui and Tahiti-Iti; for me the road leading to the Plateau were more beautiful than the plateau itself. See the pictures I am posting.

There are actually two places, the first place is the Belvedere de Taravao and, one minute up the road, the Plateau de Taravao itself, near the water collecting facility. You will need to do a short walk on the available path (you can't miss it) in order to reach the viewing spot.

Read about the Taravao Plateau on Fodor's website, and it was worth the drive. It wasn't hard to find the road from down by the big Carrefours in Taravao, but the road goes up and up for a long way, and stretches of it are pretty washed-out and bumpy. We did it in our little rental car, but it took some negotiating. Close to the end of the road is the Taravao Belvedere, a gazebo with a sign and a beautiful view down on the isthmus and Tahiti Nui. A short ways further the road ends at a reservoir, and there is a path up to a high point looking down west towards the isthmus. There is another trail that runs east, but we didn't have time to explore that. Bring a picnic lunch, it's a quiet, out-of-the-way spot to see a different side of Tahiti.
