We camped in a tent 3 nights at Round Lake and used it as a base for visiting other areas. It's about 10 miles south of Sandpoint, Idaho. It has great trees and shade, lots of birds -- we saw 2 bald eagles, and a blue heron that liked to hang out at the fishing dock. The bathroom facilities with showers (which were hot) were very nice. Only downside was a young group of campers who ignored the quiet time rules and kept their music going until 1:30 am one night. Oh, the bullfrogs "talk" to each other during quiet hours and there are trains nearby you can hear at night as well. If you are a light sleeper, you may have to have some earplugs.

We enjoyed hiking around the lake. It was an easy hike even for kids! There was not much elevation change. We will do it again.

I have lived in North Idaho for almost 15 years and didn't even know this place existed until I noticed an Idaho State Park sign and arrow pointing to Round Lake. We decided to check it out and WOW! It is such a neat, peaceful, serene place to visit!

You can make it a day trip and go hiking around the lake where you will cross bridges, go through patches of beautiful old trees, see all kinds of wildlife (we spotted a big turtle sitting on a rock last summer), and learn what skunk cabbage is. :) You can sit on the quiet beach of the lake (there are no motor boats allowed in the water so it is especially peaceful).

Or, you can also camp there (reservations highly recommended). Word of advice with camping, though; try to avoid the middle section of the camp ground as it can become very packed. We like to stay at one of the spots on the outer edge of the camping area and it is actually very nice.
