We go here way too often, probably, as we live within walking distance. So admittedly, I am a little biased; we've seen a lot of this place in the last twenty years.
The current owners are doing a fantastic job of keeping up Java Station's reputation. They get their coffee from a local roaster (Jittery Joes) and always have a wide selection brewed each day. They'll make just about any coffee- type drink you can think of, and it will taste better and be cheaper than Starbucks. They've gotten more consistent with their employee training regarding making iced coffee (for awhile this could be hit-or-miss). They always have a 'drink of the day', which is a specialty drink for about half-price.
The last few years they've really blossomed the restaurant side of the business. They've started serving a breakfast menu (think anything egg or biscuit- based). They have a wide variety of sandwiches (including a daily special) and some very creative choices of soup for lunch. Supper is a one-item daily feature, but you can also get a burger if you're not feeling the special.
If I had one wish, it would be that they opened one hour earlier (currently 7 on weekdays and 8 on Saturday; they're closed Sunday) so I could get a decent coffee on the way to work.
Atmosphere is a mixture of college student (during the school year) with business professionals with families of varying demographics.
This is one you've really got to try if you're anywhere nearby.
