Tabby cabins give a view of the Black experience of plantation life and a view of the tabby construction technique. The site by the river and the Epworth campus is a lovely bicycle destination. There is even a cafeteria in the Epworth admin building and visitors are welcome to walk the grounds by the Fredericka River. Everything (Except cafeteria food) is free, friendly and safe.

These are slave cabins that are currently undergoing restoration. Compared to what I was expecting to see, these were nicer than what has been described in books. However it was explained that these were cabins for the house slaves who had somewhat higher status on the plantations

Wish they weren't on private property, as we could only see the at a distance, from our vehicle. Sad indeed, as they're Historical.

The cabins are small but the guides are enthusiastic and informative. One of the cabins is being restored to it's original condition from the turn of the 18-19th century. It provides a valuable perspective on slave life and on the plantations of the Golden Isles.

Not very many of these slave cabins made with tabby exist anymore. Made by slaves on the coasts of oyster shells, lime, and water, these are truly living history. Not easy to find, but well worth the effort.
