Really fresh sushi/sashimi/seafood. Sat outside on a lovely evening with a glass of French rose and was impressed with service and food. Excellent service by Jared G.
In town for for business and if I were in town another night, I would return here rather than trying another restaurant on Park Ave.
Definitely worth a visit or two or three!

Umi
Winter Park

An IN-CREDIBLE-CREATIVE EXPERIENCE, let's find out:
Last year I was highly motivated- myself- as self-proclaimed gastronome when we founded here-at Umi- a Fantastic tasty experience and a distinctive Place where all is about quality and creativity. At that time this was a newcomer "gastro place" in beautiful Winter Park’s Park Ave areas
This was the kind of foodie venture long time needed in Winter Park’s restaurant row and its fine orchestra of the very bests in greater Orlando
I was diletantly thinking; what was so special and "different" about this place ?
The answer was simple; this is the kind of fusion among Creative Japanese and French cuisines, plus magnificent Sushi recipes, from here; not all is just about Sushi...as they proudly advertise.
Those can be basic foodies considerations, beyond and above creativity, but worked with freshly harvested and gathered ingredients, carefully prepared by a well trained kitchen staff...they can offer fantastic gastronomic satisfaction to Soul and Bodies
Those qualities, enhanced by nice artistry arrangement on the plate, are some of the considerations which obliged me to highly recommend- AGAIN- UMI
...to all our TA readers and review followers
Being closed to Fairbanks Ave could be a negative fact, but that fact is reversed by the location of the great and highly ranked ”Rollins College”.
Facade, setting, and sitting are simple here, but with its opened kitchen and service by well-trained Staff, on highly difficult-to-describe-recipes, everything becomes great.

> Here, at Umi, under the ownership and intellectual directions of Francois, as French as he is, Fusion on kitchen tries to communicate, to provoke and to bring newer EMOTIONS to the table, perhaps for good or wrong, but certainly, it pursues not to let indifferent all wise foodies visiting the Place <

This time we had, as drinks to be pairing our selected recipes; Chateau Vignelaure for my dear wife and a nice-soft Sake small bottle of Divine Doplets for myself. That Vignelaure, from well known (to us) nearby Aix en Provence, had an Appealing light pink color on the glass and clean nose marrying fruity and mineral notes. On the palate was very attractive, fleshy and showing abundant citrus fruits freshness. A lovely rosé!
My Divine Droplets Sake, an ultra-luxurious Junmai Daiginjo, was as usual, surprisingly food friendly and kind of a rarity by itself...as this is the only sake in the world drip-pressed in an ice...and properly served on a nice cooling V glass
Knowing their recipes, we shared most of them, as follows:
”Pork Bellies” on its stylish Pop-palette to start...was nice and full of pork meaty flavors
After that, as I had day before a Branzino Italian style at nearby Prato, I decided to try theirs here; a fantastic version of ”Branzino Alfredo”; creative, a nicely crusty cooked great and fresh Branzino, on house-made squid ink egg noodles, alfredo sauce and Thai basil...one of the very best recipes tried lately...artistry served on plate
For my wife; their ”Lemon Citrus Lobster”. Another fantastic recipe with balance and contrast due to its Lightly deep-fried style, lemon cream sauce on a bed of mixed greens, orange dressing...WOW; what a beauty on plate and tastes!
Those two recipes enhanced our gastro-experience at UMI

> Both recipes were a prelude of exactly the kind of place, long time awaited by us and all discerning foodies, in our beloved Winter Park Areas !
After that we couldn't resisted to enjoy their Sushi Rolls:
”Spicy Jalapeño” with Shrimp tempura, jalapeño, cream cheese, spicy mayo, avocado, masago, sesame seeds...was SO SO, BUT their ”Drunken Lobster”, a favorite of us, was SIMPLY GREAT; Lobster tail tempura, light cream cheese, basil, topped with snow crab leg, served with a port wine sauce & lemon cream sauce...A PERFECT EXAMPLE. OF CREATIVE FUSION ON CUISINE
Some would say that UMI is a little bit expensive, but it’s NOT if you are looking for quality, freshness, creativity and great gastronomic experiences
After that, before living, we had a moment to say hi to Francois and his dear wife and to a young man working on their kitchen that is from our DR Caribbean island. He is one bright example of those who-working hard- made his ways from its busboy, original
work...into a more satisfactory and better-paid cooking works
After that; we left content on Soul and Bodies...to our dear north Orlando Home!

Food was average. Wagyu beef portion size was tiny, and it ranged between rare and well done. Everything is over priced. On a brighter note, our server was outstanding, friendly and attentive. Would come again for the service but not for the food and high prices.

A nice sushi restaurant along the main drag in Winter Park. They have a solid menu with Japanese dishes and sushi and sashimi. We only had sushi. While generally sushi revolves around seafood, their most impressive roll was the PBR, which incorporates pork belly, asparagus and bacon. Can't go wrong with that.

The seating, service and ambience are fine. The food is expensive, sold and presented with a flair that, while appealing, could not overcome a kind of predictable flavor. We ordered a chef's special salmon (good, moist, pricey) and tempura (average), with a good beer and average Pinot noir.
Many tables seemed to be ordering the sushi rolls, so maybe those items might have been possibly tasteful. We've eaten in a number of Japanese restaurants, this one was unremarkable, and for the price, not worth returning.
For a couple, the tab was $80+.
