Disclaimer- we took our kids to WDW the year previously and are die-hard Disney fans. This year we were vacationing in Fort Myers and my son is obsessed with Legos. So we decided to do a one-day trip to Legoland Florida. The kids knew not to expect Disney but we all had a great time at Legoland! The rides are perfect for our son's age (6) and our 4-year old daughter was able to enjoy many of them, but not tall enough for all. We enjoyed the Dragon coaster the most, with a close second being the Ninjago ride.
Other highlights were the Pirate waterski show (really fun and entertaining) and the 4D movie. It was also enjoyable to get away from the crowds and walk through the peaceful garden area of the old Cypress Gardens park which Legoland was built on.
We liked the miniature land but felt that the Florida sun has really done a number to the models and they could use a little refreshing (faded colors, etc). Legoland could also maintain their grounds a little bit better. Certain areas felt a bit tired.
This is definitely a one day park in our opinion, although a stay at the Legoland Hotel would probably be quite fun for the big Lego fans! We did not do the water park as it was only 67 degrees the day we visisited. Perhaps in warmer weather a stay at the hotel combined with the water park add on would be a fun idea.
All in all, we recommend Legoland, but will likely go back to Disney World before we go back to Legoland! It was a long drive to Winter Haven from Fort Myers, but doable as a day trip. The lines were really reasonable despite it being a prime spring break week in mid-March, We didn't wait longer than 15-20 minutes, tops. Most rides were more in the 10 minute wait range. Also, don't be like us and wait until closing to visit the big Lego store near the entrance. That ended in a meltdown of indecision and tears!
Enjoy Legoland, especially if you are a big Lego fan!!!
