Great drive through a beautiful area with wonderful views. Definitely worth the longer drive to get to Tampa.

If you've been over the I10 bridge in Baton Rouge and in Lake Charles, then this is one to do too. To me its bigger than both and seems to go higher, which the kids thought was cool. Glad we got to see and drive this beauty.

The bridge is not only beautiful but a quick route between Tampa/St. Pete and the communities of Bradenton and Sarasota. Each end of the bridge has a small park for picnics and scenic views. We also went fishing on the fishing pier which is the remnant of the old bridge. It is $1.50 to cross it and to go to the parks. The fishing pier is more expensive.

This is a pretty bridge. I like how it looks gold in the sunlight. It’s also a very long bridge. Gorgeous

We headed south from St. Petersburg, destination, Anna Maria Island! There’s no stopping on the span but drive slower and take in the magnificent view of the bay and out to the Gulf. Huge barges and ocean liners use this waterway to reach the port of Tampa.
It is a $1 toll; parts of the former Sunshine Skyway that were knocked down into the water in 1980 are now fishing bridges accessed at both ends of the bridge. Many lives were lost that day in a horrible accident when a ship passing under the bridge crashed into a pylon in the fog, causing a large section to collapse into the waters below.
The new bridge (on I-275) is an architectural feat and is one of two ways to reach the Bradenton/Sarasota area from the north, the other being further east by way of I-75.
