We have driven past many times and decided to finally check it out. It’s a really pretty park. There is beach access but be aware there is a 1600 foot boardwalk to cross to get to the beach and primitive bathrooms beachside. Not necessarily an issue but shocked the heck out of us.

They do run a golf cart/tram across but I can’t say how often. We were too early and had to hoof it with all of our stuff. The ocean was way too rough to swim so we walked the beach and headed out.

Paddle boarding and kayak rentals are available. We didn’t do that this time but maybe another trip.

Easily accessible by auto. Our return to our automobile was hampered by the lack of signage. Warm reception, good entertainment at the amphitheater and excellent museums.

This is an oceanfront state park with a large lagoon for kayaking and bird watching. There is a small nature center, interesting talks by park rangers, clearly happy volunteers, and gorgeous shells I have not found elsewhere. The best birding and shelling is at low tide.

We went to the park to kayak but unfortunately due to a small craft advisory warning we were not allowed to take these into the estuary. When we saw the 18ft surf on the nearby beach we could see why there was some concern about drag on the water making steering difficult. So the good thing is they take Safety seriously! Alternatively we went on a guided tour with a volunteer (Barb) . This was a great thing to do and she was so knowledgeable she brought the park alive for us. Wild life and fauna. Butterfly, moth, birds of prey, pelicans. Nothing was too much trouble for her. A great guided walk with this dedicated lady. You can do the walks your self and use a tick off guide but you won't get so much of a 'feel ' for the area you are visiting. A lovely day out. Note they do not sell tea or coffee so take your own. I think they may sell soft drinks . There is not a cafe. You will need packed lunch if you plan to go for the day. Rest rooms are very clean.

This was our 2nd time at this beautiful beach park. We had a lovely walk and the views are incredible. There is a nature area, rental kayaks, beach, walk through the mangroves and a boardwalk over a lake. Beautiful nature, birds, sea and water life, gift shop — all for a very low cost entry of $8/car. Worth the visit definitely!
