Owner description: Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

Enjoyed the morning walking through seeing all the wildlife. Saw so many different birds, gators, snakes and lizards. Even got to watch a gator snatch a fish! Enjoyed it here!

We spent a few hours in the late afternoon walking through the sanctuary. A highlight at the beginning were the painted buntings at the bird feeders. The first half of the walk was not as exciting for our teenagers, though we did see several pileated woodpeckers. The second half more than grabbed their attention with alligators, storks, a water moccasin, and a wonderful amount of other wildlife.

We decided to spend an afternoon here and in the end, we are glad we did. It is pricey (but the money goes towards the nice facility and conservation), and it started out boring, but we ended up enjoying it.

Basically you just walk a boardwalk through wooded and marsh areas. The fun is in finding all the wildlife you can which changes constantly. We ended up seeing some really neat birds, turtles, and alligators.

Bring your camera and good walking shoes.

I can come back to the sanctuary all 4 seasons and witness the subtle changes that occur without most taking notice...but here, you experience being close to all that is sacred...An easy walk along the boardwalk...unspoiled and natural. A must see for any nature lover!

2.5 mile walk on a boardwalk to see Florida wild life of gators, birds, deer, snakes and many kinds of trees. Spend 2 to 3 hours but it is 45 minutes from Naples. Insect spray and sunscreen is a must.
