Greatly enjoyed some fun family get-together with son Jerry and grandson Sam and me and Alice as we took a two and a half hour kayak tour of the beautiful and peaceful waters of the Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve, an Estuary located on part of the Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail. If you are ever in the area of Pine Island you should take this tour. Our tour guide, Jim Niehaus, has a great love for Pine Island and tremendous knowledge of the history and ecology of the region which he freely provided to us before and during the tour. The help he provided to we novice kayakers along the way was kindly provided and greatly appreciated. Jim suggested, and we agreed, to let him take pictures along the way to protect our camera phones and so that all of us would be part of the kayak picture history. We had the added benefit and privilege of being the only participants on this tour.

This was a kayak tour through the mangrove trees and estuaries near Pine Island. Take the tour instead of renting on your own! Jim was our guide and he was extremely knowledgeable and knew where to go (you could easily get lost where he took us) and about all the wildlife. Our family took two double kayaks and our 6 year olds sat in the front and only paddled when they wanted to. They were so intrigued that they didn't get bored at all! It was a not tiring paddle. We saw dolphins, Jim taught us about the oysters all around, knew where the nocturnal birds were sleeping, showed us baby shrimp, and found bioluminescent comb jellies! The was so memorable for our boys to get out in this shallow area and catch these jellies (not to be confused with jellyfish) and then release. We also saw blue crabs and conch shells. Do the tour with Gulf Coast Kayak! It will not disappoint!

I was very pleased with how easy the process was for the four day kayak rental for my family! We stayed in a rental property in a canal, and enjoyed kayaking all four days that we had the kayaks. And they come with everything you need! Super easy with the delivery and pickup, we didn’t even have to be there! Thank you for the great service!

We went on the 2 1/2 hour mangrove tour and it was fabulous! Jim was our guide and he was passionate and knowledgable about the Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve. It made all the difference!

I also appreciate Gulf Coast Kayak calling me this past week to reschedule. We would have been miserable in those high winds Thursday. Today’s low tide provided such a great experience. They are clearly all about safety. COVID protocols were followed and the tour guide kept his mask on the entire time.

He navigated us through the winds just fine. Loved the birds, horseshoe crabs, history and ecosystem of the mangroves and all the photos you took. We will definitely be back with friends.

Thank you so much for your super positive review! So glad to hear your guided kayak tour with Jim was fabulous and that you will be back with friends! Jim is certainly passionate and knowledgeable about the local flora, fauna and history of the area! Paddling in low tide is definitely a great experience as it provides an opportunity for up close viewing of small creatures in the water :) Thanks again for choosing Gulf Coast Kayak and we hope to see you all again soon!
