My wife and I were attending a wedding in Madison, CT last weekend and stayed at the highly recommended Captain Stannard Inn in Westbrook. At home we are landlocked in the Blue Ridge Mountains a good 5 hours from any beach and thus we were thrilled to discover Bill's Seafood which more than satisfied our craving for fresh right-off-the-boat seafood we can rarely get where we live. We were there on a Friday night but as it was already off season there was no shortage of tables and we were seated instantly (we chose to sit outdoors on the deck which overlooks marshland). While also known for their Prime Rib, Bill's specializes in seafood and we took advantage of being able to share a pound of New England clam chowder, steamed clams, fried clams and boiled Maine lobster. A great place for both couples and families with kids, the vibe is typically beach-like with things served in styrofoam or on plastic plates with plastic utensils. Please note - THEY ONLY TAKE CASH - no credit cards - but they have ATMs on site and the fee was only $1.50 which is no big deal. There was no way the 2 of us could have sampled all the dishes on the menu that appealed to us but we look forward to returning to Bill's next time we are on the Connecticut coast.
