While driving up Mt Evans, we stopped in at the Echo Lake Lodge for lunch. Our server was very friendly and anxious to help us. He recommended the Bison Stew and/or Bison Chili. We decided to order one of each. The chili wasn't too bad, it had a strong chili powder taste; which brought on some indigestion later in the day... The stew was made from Bison Roast. Our server told us that the roast was cooked for several hours, then put in the stew. I'm from the south, and this was NOT Southern stew. The veggies were barely blanched, nothing cooked down like we do it here. The Bison roast was tough, chewy and had little to no taste. Not what this Ole Southern boy wanted. However, both were served with thick cornbread that was delicious. It had butter and honey on the side which added a nice flavor.
The lodge itself was pretty cool. We watched humming birds play outside the window and could get a glimpse of the lake outside. On the porch and parking lot, the view was breath taking!! I have attached a pic!
I highly recommend this stop mainly for the view, but choose the food for yourself...

We stopped in for breakfast on the way to a mountain weekend. It still has all its charm, and our waitress was friendly, but the service was sloooow....Food was good, and there was lots of it. We will return to try the pie. Nice, historic old building.

We were on the scenic bypass trip, did a lot of hiking, stopped here on the way down to get some dessert. Everybody recommended the pies, they were to die for! Big enough piece to share with two people, the peanut butter chocolate was outstanding. Butterscotch was pretty darn good also! Worth the stop and a nice selection of stuff in the shop.

Great location, beautiful views and watch the humming birds while you wait for food. Great old lodge that has not wasted one square inch to stack up do- dads to sell to tourists.
Food service was slow especially after we ordered. Once the food arrived it was at best warm - chick pot pie, buffalo stew and hamburgers always taste better when they served hot not warm to room temp. Just wonder if the food was sitting in lichen while we waited and waited for it to be served.

This is a combination gift store, bar, and restaurant that offers great views of Echo Lake while you eat. We both ordered hamburgers which were good and a big size. They also offer homemade pies which looked terrific, but we were too full to try a piece. We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds fly back and forth between the numerous feeders they have hanging outside the windows; they were very entertaining. This is a great place to stop for food after your drive to Mount Evans, without fighting the crowds and searching for a parking spot in Idaho Springs.
