Echo Lake is just before the Park entrance for Mount Evans. Mount Evans is a great way to experience one of Colorado's 14ners without having to hike the whole thing. On my way back from the summit I stopped by the Echo Lake Lodge and Campground. This used to be a full service hotel for guests coming to visit the mountain. Now it just a gift shop and small eatery, but worth the stop for the history on Echo Lake. I took the Mountain trip as a day trip from Denver. There are places to camp and RV on the Park campground, and the lake is stunning, especially in the morning. I am sure there is great fishing as well if you have the paperwork. Make sure you don't miss this stop on your way by.

Stunning scenery, fresh air, great for walks and hiking into the mountains...

Visited en route to Mount Evans, lake still was partially covered in ice.

A very serene spot and relaxing place on earth; just an hour and 10 minutes drive from Denver.

We stayed at Echo Lake campground on our Colorado Road Trip. We had just come down from Rocky Mountain National Park and we wanted to check out Mt. Evans the next day, so we decided to stay here. We did not spend much time here, we set up our tent and then headed to Denver to watch the MLS Soccer game and fireworks for the 4th of July. It was 95 degrees when we got to Denver, lets just say we weren't dressed right, it was 60 degrees at Echo Lake Campground. When we got back up to the campground it had hailed and sleeted and was 32 degrees that night! Got down to 29 degrees! Definitely bring warm clothes for here, the elevation is at 10,600 feet and doesn't get too warm. It was nice to be right at the entrance to enter Mt. Evans the next morning, what a drive! Definitely would recommend staying at this campground for the experience of camping in the high elevation. We left after checking out Mt. Evans so we didn't spend too much time here.
