If you want to experience what it was like to live in San Jose 100 years ago you need to go to the History Park. The City of San Jose created this wonderful location over many years. They actually moved many old building from their original location to this new venue near Kelly Park as buildings were scheduled for demolition or removal during redevelopment projects. They have people in period costumes and many hands on exhibits. A wonderful way for a family to spend a afternoon.

We got there late on a rainy day and so didn't get to experience the whole park, but the parts we did were fabulous. We saw an exhibit about trolleys and one about printing. In both exhibits the volunteer docents provided excellent context and hands on experiences. I wish we had gotten there in time to see the rest of the exhibits. Highly recommend for families and those looking to pass an informative and leisurely day. There is limited free parking, but you can park for $6 fairly close by in a park.

This park is really smartly realized. Many period houses and building are restored and open. There is also a period train to take around the park. This is a fun and accessible way to explore history.

Lovely park. Directions brought us to a pay to park lot where we didn't have access and had to drive around. It was a week day and we got a parking spot right near the entrance. Very quiet as most of the buildings we're closed when we were there, but it was still nice to walk around and read the plaques about the buildings.

Used to come here just for the gift shop, but heard about a photo exhibit of field workers, so took sister and auntie. The exhibit was great, and my 80+ auntie loved all the old buildings and riding in the trolley car. I was disappointed that the gift shop was moved and really small with very limited offerings, and even worse, it was closed. We had some nice ice cream though; a deal at 2 scoops for $4 (1 for $3), but there were only a few flavors to choose from. Of course, only volunteers work there, so not all buildings were open. Learned alot from the gentleman in the Black history building, and the Vietnamese building was impressive in the amount of items and information, and being born and raised here, it is fun imagining living here way back when...It was a beautiful day and I look forward to returning again to stroll through the quaint streets, maybe bringing a picnic lunch next time.
