Canyon Club is a reasonably priced gay male, clothing optional resort in downtown Palm Springs. The social scene here is a lot of fun . The management is friendly, helpful and attentive. The location is excellent on Palm Canyon Way with the free PS trolley shuttle stopping right outside. The rooms and the resort in general are very clean and comfortable. Canyon Club offers a large clean pool, a hot tub, and misters for sun bathing.

The outside of the building looks like a factory or concrete bunker. The inside is much nicer. The entire resort, while clean, is in need of a serious upgrade as it tends toward the shabby. I believe that some rooms have already been remodeled and upgraded--mine was not. The decor in my room was a hodgepodge of various incompatible styles of furnishings. While livable, the room lacked many amenities, some of which I found conspicuously absent. There was no room safe, which I would have liked, The TV did not work, not that I much cared. There was no alarm clock in the room. The free Wi-Fi was intermittent and incredibly slow. There was a marked paucity of electrical outlets making recharging of electrical devices challenging. The AC worked, but cycled noisily on and off all night. There was no reading lamp on the desk. The towel bar in the bathroom was broken, and the bathtub, though clean, was badly in need of resurfacing. There was little vanity space for toiletries. There was a serviceable fridge in the room, but no coffee pot. The bed was quite comfortable, but seemed to have a slight musty odor which I got used to. The printer for the computer in the lounge does not work. One afternoon out at the pool, about 2 dozen sunbathers were treated to the deafening roar of an extremely noisy leaf blower as a gardener worked his way around the pool's perimeter. Not good.

On the positive side, the employees at the front desk were very helpful in finding places for me that delivered food late at night.

The main draw of Canyon Club is a fun crowd, a laid back management, a good location and reasonable pricing.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgraded room.

Rooms are dirty, the bathroom was disgusting. The pool needed to be cleaned (waterline fatty and disgusting). Sun beds are dirty, especially the ones that are located on the room's terrace. There is no bar or services available... parking is expensive and not included. If you loose your old fashioned key you have to pay $150... what kind of a gay hotel is this?? Where are all the luxuries and that little extra we gay men want to pay for.. where is the business sense of the owner with all these unused opportunities? Go to Island House in Key West and learn how to operate a gay resort.

We stayed at the Canyon Club a few weeks ago and it is all right. Upon check in we were only given one key for the room. These are the old fashioned keys, and not the key cards which are in 99% of hotels these days. I was travelling with a friend and we asked for 2 keys, and this seemed to irritate the front desk clerk. The clerk the next day was much nicer and said he'd let the owner know, but 3 days later we still only had 1 key and had to make all these elaborate logistical plans if we wished to separate and do things on our own. I saw the owner roaming about the complex for hours and hours one day. I guess he didn't have 10 minutes to spare to go get a key cut at a nearby hardware store. But, if you lose these precious keys, it'll cost you $150.00 apparently. Aside from that, which I still find annoying (obviously), the hotel is OK and the facilities are OK. The weather was divine and the pool and surroundings very inviting. I read negative comments about the breakfast but I found it to be just fine. You have bagels, bread, Hard boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt, OJ and coffee. Perfectly fine. The location is perfect and the clientele quite friendly. Too bad KeyGate was my first and lasting impression.

We really are still enjoying the spaces and friendly owners, staff and clientele who call this home away from home!
Pool, hot tub, sauna (steam and heat), the grounds, information all add to our experience here! We will return and love the location. Corvid and John

Housekeeping here is top notch. My room was clean wall-to-wall and the bed linens were spotless. Bath towels didn't seem quite as fresh but were OK. Bathroom was very clean but plumbing sure could use an update. And the oversized HVAC unit make quite a racket as does the refrigerator. I was able to turn off the frig, but needed to run the heater and deal with the noise. And there was a big hole in the closet where a pipe passed through. The wifi was sporadic, weak and slow. The routers are in the office area and boosters fail to evenly cover the sprawling property. But who comes here for the wifi? The playroom was fun and I assume the garden is too, except in the rain. The friendly staff and guests are what makes this property work and there isn't a better value in Palm Springs. I'll be back.
