Out of the way, past Mecca, long bumpy dirt road, soft sand parking lot. The surrounding mountains have differing shades of green and brown and orange and blue colors, probably changing with time of day. You can hike up the San Andreas Canyon fault, climbing over rocks, going up 10 foot ladders on occasion, then take a 2 hour circle route to arrive back at start.

Having hiked Angels Landing in Zion we thought, what the heck, we can handle a few ladders. Well, let's just say that while this hike is far less dangerous than Angels Landing, there are some treacherous parts.

The 5 mile loop hike is fairly easy, and wonderfully shady through the slots, but the ladders can be a bit scary. None are attached to the walls, so you must be sure footed and focused when going up or down.

If you go, take lots of water and take your time. The scenery of the canyon is beautiful and the view of the Salton Sea and mountains in the distance at the top of the ridge is spectacular.

Drive a few miles of washboard road and then park and walk up the many canyons. Slowly. Stop. Look. Enjoy. If on a cloudy day the entire view is really memorable! And this is the bottom end of the San Andreas fault. Can you find it?

Our fourth time here and our fourth time in the Canyon. Kids love bouldering, hiking the ladders and enjoying snacks at the summit. It should be the number one thing to do near Palm Springs.

Pack lots of water and some snacks for the top. It can be windy on the summit. Wear good shoes with traction otherwise some of the washout areas can be slippery.

The Access sucks but you get what you pay for (free). Tahquitz Canyon Falls has a a paved road but adults are charged $12.50 for entry. This is FREE.

A great hike; allow about 3 hours to summit and return, or more to walk up toward the com towers and return through the basin of the canyon (longer but kind of boring- kids prefer to retrace back down the ladders).

As with other reviews downside is signage. lack of washrooms and dirt road

All else is spectacular.

Dirt road sign says 4 wheel drive only but I believe all cars can easily do it

We took I think the easier route as went up about 10 ladders and then down only 2

walk into canyon about 500 yards and look for arrow made out of rocks pointing you to gap in rocks - that's where you want to start

we are in our seventies and had no big problem doing the full loop- but not y at timeseas
