I am generally reluctant to stay at non-chain hotels because of past experiences, but this hotel is a good one. It's a basic hotel with no frills, but the rooms have been completely remodled and I was very happy with my stay. The bed and pillows are very comfortable and the bathrooms are outstanding. Nice job with the design of the rooms and for using high quality materials.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms have vaulted ceilings.

Munras Inn was an incredible experience. We have stayed in Monterey many times. Most of our trips have been Pacific Grove and a couple of stays in Carmel. We found Munras Inn more affordable at this time. The staff Jenny and Cory, were just amazing! Spoke with Cory regarding reservation, which she describes many of the rooms available. We chose a room which sounded good to us. When we arrived, Jenny walked us to our room, and made sure we were ok with it. We were fine, but my husband asked to see what other rooms they had. Very happy to help us, Jenny went back to the office and came back with 2 other rooms for us to look at, the next room we liked much better, and asked to have that room. Jenny was so accommodating, went back changed rooms and we were set! The hospitality of this inn was awesome. We will be back. And Crazy Horse Restaurant, all you can eat Salad Bar 12.99, was really good. Over all great time!. And the bed was comfortable too!

Room Tip: Rooms that sit towards the back of the inn are less noisy.

This place was deceiving from the outside because our room was gorgeous! Great location, very clean and we had a great nights sleep! Comfy beds! I am so glad we found it! The owner was very polite. The price was a great value!

Funky looking building but a clean, basic room for one night. Safe for solo traveler. Lighting was crummy so don’t expect nice reading lamps in bed. Only a few blocks from mall and Whole Foods for anything you need. Easy access to all Monterey fun.

Thank you for the review. We value your feedback. We do plan on painting the exterior this year to give the buildings a more modern look. We hope you will come back and see us again soon.

We had read the reviews, which were really, really good and they were really, really right! The outside is absolutely nothing to look st but the rooms were outstanding, particularly the 2nd floor rooms! They are very spacious, have a vaulted ceiling with exposed wood & a fireplace! The closet was very large for a hotel & had full length mirrored doors. There were 2 very comfortable chairs & a very nice size flat screen. The bathroom was also spacious with good counter space & plenty of shelf space underneath for all your toiletries as well as towels. If there had been a magnifying mirror it would have been even more perfect! The piece of furniture that the TV was on had a pull out shelf with a Keurig coffee maker, a hidden frig, and a microwave/very clever & sheik looking,
Breakfast is very minimal with cold cereal, yogurt, juices, coffee, apples & oranges, & pastries which you can warm up in the microwave in your room, And that is where you eat your breakfast as the lobby is tiny. Which we decided we enjoyed as you can do it dressed or in your jammies once you ran down to the lobby to grab what you wanted. You will want to EAT your way across Monterey & Carmel, great food everywhere do it was just enough to get you going!
Speaking of going, the location of this hotel/motel was outstanding. It was about 8 minutes to the Monterey airport, which, by the way, is truly the way to go if you don’t plan to go to San Francisco. Actually, it is still the way to go as you can drive 2 hours to San Francisco & avoid the “hassle “ of the huge San Francisco airport & car rental-especially the car rental which facility which is massive & very inconvenient particularly when returning the rental. The Monterey airport is a very small regional airport very much like ours in Tyler, Tx. Security is a breeze. I think there maybe only 4 gates, car rental is next to baggage pick up, flying in & out is a total no hassle experience!
The hotel was 5-6 minutes to Fisherman’s Wharf and the Cannery, 10 minutes to Carmel-By-The-Sea and one of the entrances to Pebble Beach & the 17 mile drive. Don’t miss the 17 mile drive. And take your time. Spoil yourselves with lunch at the Pebble Beach club or even better, Spanish Bay with their excellent food & a view to die for! Don’t miss Pacific Grove-absolutely charming architecture, very pristine, and more great views!
Carmel is exactly what one expects-lots of shops, beautiful old homes, many wine tasting rooms, and of course great restaurants. If you are into wine buy a Wine Walk Pass for $100. Gets you into 20 tasting rooms & 2 can share one pass. There is a darling regional playhouse in Carmel. It has a great reputation & following. Check to see what is playing. We saw Momma Mia. The tickets are very reasonable & there was a lot of talent on that stage. Keep in mind, parking in Carmel is a nightmare. Unless you get here at 7:30 am with the other 2000 people ( lol ), you will park blocks & blocks away. But that is just park of the deal in Carmel so just be prepared. There is maybe 2 or 3 parking lot for 50 cars which seem to be permanently parked.
There are probably another 10 or more hotel motels on Munras Rd. They are all that 60’s-70’s architecture with doors opening to the outside. And they are all in about the same price range. Then your options are in the Cannery area with rates in the $225-300+ range. We did not spend enough time in our room to justify those prices plus we got to spend the difference on food & drink!!
We think the Munras Inn is the best deal in town for the location & the price! You will too!
