We were there for two nights last weekend for a wedding in Monterey. I chose the place because I thought it was a good price but when I looked later at other places for similar prices they seemed to have more services.
First - the rooms are very nice. Clean...big bed and ours had a fireplace in the room. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. so - that's a plus.
However..when at a hotel or inn you kinda like to have a spot to sit outside especially in a lovely town like Monterey. But there is nowhere to sit outside - well actually there is a square concrete pad with a few chairs but nothing appealing about it.
The reception area had two chairs and a counter and was cramped so no place to lounge there either.
Then the second night when we got back there was a gentleman who couldn't get into his room and there was no one in the reception office and the phone number in the window didn't work. He ended up calling the police but they couldn't do much to help. This man and his wife went to another hotel for the night but all their personal items were locked in their room.
Finally the parking lot is a skinny skinny lot that is very hard to maneuver through and if you don't get a space you have to park up the street somewhere.
Thankfully the location is a quick walk to cafes and restaurants so we did grab breakfast a great little diner across the street from the Munras Hotel and Spa.
Truthfully - the place lacked charm...the reception office was unfriendly and I would not choose this inn again.

Stayed one night whilst on a road trip in California. Excellent location, lovely room - no. 33 very spacious, quiet and comfy - only suggestion would be a small table and a couple of chairs to eat breakfast on as no room in reception where breakfast was laid out - Continental breakfast was more than adequate. Jenny on reception was very welcoming. would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Monterey.

Room tip: No. 33 very spacious

Conveniently located. Nice walk into old Monterey and to the Wharf. Looks a little run down on the exterior but the rooms are nice. If you are used to having a front desk open all the time, you might find it inconvenient when it is closed even during the hours it claims to be open. That being said, with a phone call they are responsive. Beds are comfortable and rooms are more upscale that you might expect from a 2 star rating.

Room tip: no elevator so upstairs rooms mean hauling stuff up narrow stairs

The hotel/motel is well located in Monterey, around 1 mile from fishermans wharf and cannery row.
The room was large with a huge bed and fantastic shower. But it was so hot! The air con wasn't working so we headed to reception, for them 'to reset the breaker'. That didn't work so we were given a fan. Luckily it cooled down overnight so we could sleep. The same thing occurred day 2 so again reception would look into it.
And on day 3 the room we 88oF!! So again we went to reception (this was the fourth time) this time the reception did offer us to change rooms but with restaurant reservations very shortly we simply didn't have time to pack everything up and move without messing up our whole evening ...however hindsight says we should have as hours later when we returned it was still 88oF and reception was now closed.
Really disappointed to sound negative about this hotel as so many positives - the size of the room, the convenience of location, complimentary breakfast, free parking etc but unfortunately having such poor sleep due to the heat in the room (it wasn't actually warm outside!! So we can't blame the weather) really put a dampener on our stay.

When you first arrive it looks like a basic motel, but to my surprise the rooms were very nice for the price. Location is good as it is not loud or overly busy while still a short walk to the main street and restaurants. Monterey is a beautiful location and you should only really be sleeping in your room as you should be out looking around, Munras is perfect for that as it is comfortable for the time you need it. Breakfast was lacking but as i found that is very normal in the US. Dennys is 200m away for some real breakfast.
