We booked this hotel the night before required as due to the wild fires we had to change our holiday route. On arrival the building looks like a motel and the corridors to the rooms were concerning. There is an exit into the Main Street which isn't locked at night so anyone could wander in. However, the rooms were spacious, modern and very clean.
Being from the UK it was a pleasant change to have a small, complimentary breakfast which was self serve. You collect it from reception and take it back to your room. This may not appeal to some but for us it was fine and not a problem. Air con was very quiet and you could open the windows. We were not disturbed by noise. For a last minute stay all was good.

Let me preface this review by stating that I understand the concept that “One must sell peanuts when the circus is in town”. We were in town for Monterey’s Car Week & had stayed in this neighborhood on 2 previous visits. We chose the Munras Inn largely based in the room photos posted on the internet. To be clear, the rooms are spacious & well -appointed with good beds, good lighting & a so-so modern bathroom. TV remote does not work correctly.
When you pull up to this place, the first impression is not good. It looks like a combination 1960’s roadside motel coupled with Motel 6 architecture. The lobby (see pictures) is a total disgrace & had it not been for our deposit and the other nearby hotels being booked, we would have walked out. Depressing & disappointing to say the least. The guy behind the desk was almost pleasant. We knew this was going to be a little expensive when we booked it, but the way rates varied night-by-night during our stay was shocking. Yes, I know, it was our fault when we booked this beauty. That said, the Inn’s website talked about breakfast being included. It was indeed. The breakfast was packets of dry cereal, horrible cold coffee, passable mini containers of yogurt, fat laden prepackaged muffins that weighed a ton & the “piece de resistance”--- a tray to bring this crap up to your room where you can eat in on your bed. One saving grace was the Keurig machine in the bar/refrigerator.
The room overlooked the parking lot where you could hear the cars coming & going. Outside lighting so bright you need a welder’s mask at night to protect your eyes. The traffic noise from the nearby city street did not help the ambiance. Would I stay here again? Never!! The word “courtesy” is not in the vocabulary that was taught to the people behind the reception desk. Their attitude was “If you don’t like it, leave”. OK. My suggestion to future guests is to be prepared to be shocked upon entering this dump. Spend as little time in this place as possible. Leave early & come back late.

Room tip: Look at room before you unpack & settle in.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Munras Inn. The rooms are clean and really nicely furnished, and the beds are comfortable. Our room also had a gas fireplace which was a surprise. You can really tell the owners take great pride in their hotel! In addition the location can't be beat. Highly recommend, and would definitely stay there again. (and I am generally a bit of a hotel snob)

We stayed one night en route to San Francisco. We arrived much later than expected at night as roads into Monterey closed due to forest fires but the man on reception was very welcoming and friendly. Our rooms were very comfortable and spacious. As mentioned by others the breakfast was very basic and a bit of a disappointment however as this was a quick stopover for us it wasn't really a problem. The town centre is very close by and was lovely

We stopped off in Monterey on our way down the coast from San Fran. The Munras Inn was perfect for a stop over and had free parking too.
Room was lovely. It had a fire place, good shower, comfortable bed and plenty of space. Breakfast was a little odd, they laid out cereal boxes and pastries at reception for you to take away or eat in your room, but we didn't mind as we wanted to start driving again fairly early.
All in all, great place to stay.
