This play ground is in a lovely spot, but desperately needs some shady place spaces and some updating (a few playground items are broken).

The rec center has a wide array of playground equipment for children, and well-maintained, very popular tennis courts for teens and adults. Numerous classes take place in the rec center itself. It is conveniently located across from the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the beach is just a couple blocks west of this facility.
They provide balls for children to play, have good bathrooms, a large grassy area, playgrounds, basketball courts, handball courts, and a tennis club. It is all free (not sure about the tennis part).
Just a couple blocks west of Girard on Prospect, the rec center is a great place to hang out and give the kids a break. Soda machines, bathrooms, play equipment, and grass areas also give the parents a break!
As a kid in the 70s used to come here and trade in my shoes for a ball or a knock hockey game and play to our heart's content. Seems to have changed very little. Still has a bunch of activities for kids. Two excellent playgrounds one for littler kids and one for bigger. Basketball courts and a playing field. Also is open late in summer and the courts are lighted. Just be sure to bring your own ball after the Rec Center Staff collects their own in the evenings. Couldn't think of a better place to hang out when not on the beach.
