Must do ride through the Sierra Nevada Ansel Adam Wilderness by horseback with this professional and personable outfitter. Owner Dave warmly greeted me by name! when I pulled into the station and showed me where to park the car and while our gear was packed onto the mules, his wife and assistants gave us a hot breakfast while we completed our paperwork. We spent 5 inspiring days riding from June Lake to Tuolumne Meadows. Camped 2 nights by Davis Lake and 2 nights by Lyell Creek. Area is drop dead gorgeous! Packing crew consisted of 3 fantastic fun guys, Scott, Duncan and Kent (owner) who took great care of us with fun fireside tales, yummy food, packing/unpacking gear each day we moved camp while leading us safely through majestic high sierras. Met many new friends on this pack trip and we are planning to ride Summer 2016 with Frontier Pack Train! Give 'em 6 stars if I could!!

This company has great horses that are clearly well cared for and treated well. The guide on our 1/2 day trip was terrific. He asked if we'd rather talk or just look at the scenery. What a nice thing to ask! We opted for less small talk and more views, and the views are SPECTACULAR. We climbed over 1000 feet to the top of a ridge, stopped at a mountain spring, and rode through meadows and aspen groves. Both of us have done trail rides before and this was by far the best of our lifetime.
Two items to note: the 1/2 day trip has some steep areas descending. If you're a first time rider, try the hour trip first. Also, bring a water bottle. You can refill it at the spring (safe to drink) and it's the best cold water you've tasted.

We called about the 1/2 day horse ride. I asked if we needed a reservation for the day we wanted to take a ride. I was told none was needed and to just show up for the afternoon ride. We arrived 1/2 half early and were told there would be no 1/2 rides that day as no guides were available. Further, it was cash only and there is no mention of that on their website or when I called. The only thing they could offer was a one hour trail ride with another family, cash now!! We were extremely disappointed, but opted for the one hour ride because of driving from Mammoth Mountain to get there. In talking with our guide, he talked extensively about the 1/2 day trail ride and he leads it all the time. Further, there were guides all over the place. I came to the conclusion that because it was just my wife and I, they didn't want a guide to go out for 1/2 day with only two people. Buyer, be ware!!

We have enjoyed riding horses here, most recently summer 2013. The area around here is so scenic.

In addition, you can rent pack teams to go with you with your camping supplies on their back (instead of yours) into the magestic mountain back country. The scenic beauty is amazing. For that, do make reservations in advancec.

It is located by Silver Lake on June Lake Loop in the Eastern SIerras. It is open in the summer. We have been in Bridgeport one day when they were bringing the horses back to the area - i.e. they move them to another location during the winter.
