This company has great horses that are clearly well cared for and treated well. The guide on our 1/2 day trip was terrific. He asked if we'd rather talk or just look at the scenery. What a nice thing to ask! We opted for less small talk and more views, and the views are SPECTACULAR. We climbed over 1000 feet to the top of a ridge, stopped at a mountain spring, and rode through meadows and aspen groves. Both of us have done trail rides before and this was by far the best of our lifetime.
Two items to note: the 1/2 day trip has some steep areas descending. If you're a first time rider, try the hour trip first. Also, bring a water bottle. You can refill it at the spring (safe to drink) and it's the best cold water you've tasted.

We called about the 1/2 day horse ride. I asked if we needed a reservation for the day we wanted to take a ride. I was told none was needed and to just show up for the afternoon ride. We arrived 1/2 half early and were told there would be no 1/2 rides that day as no guides were available. Further, it was cash only and there is no mention of that on their website or when I called. The only thing they could offer was a one hour trail ride with another family, cash now!! We were extremely disappointed, but opted for the one hour ride because of driving from Mammoth Mountain to get there. In talking with our guide, he talked extensively about the 1/2 day trail ride and he leads it all the time. Further, there were guides all over the place. I came to the conclusion that because it was just my wife and I, they didn't want a guide to go out for 1/2 day with only two people. Buyer, be ware!!

We have enjoyed riding horses here, most recently summer 2013. The area around here is so scenic.

In addition, you can rent pack teams to go with you with your camping supplies on their back (instead of yours) into the magestic mountain back country. The scenic beauty is amazing. For that, do make reservations in advancec.

It is located by Silver Lake on June Lake Loop in the Eastern SIerras. It is open in the summer. We have been in Bridgeport one day when they were bringing the horses back to the area - i.e. they move them to another location during the winter.

If you're looking for a friendly western adventure, that caters to a genuine guest experience, call Frontier and saddle up. Epic scenery in the eastern Sierra can be realized whether your an experienced rider or just starting out. The Frontier crew is for real, authentic and focused on providing you a safe western vacation that you will never forget. It is a family orientated outfit that will make you feel at home in the saddle and around the campfire.

If you want to get away from it all and bond with your family and a group of strangers who will quickly be good friends try the Frontier Pack Trains roundup. ( spring or fall ). You can choose to spend 4 to 8 hours a day in the saddle helping to move a large herd of horses and mules. You will be served excellent meals, you will see unforgettable views and you will experience the magical mystery of man and horse. ( the Pack Train has a wide selection of mounts - Dave will make sure you are horse happy ). My family has taken 7 roundups. It has been a blessing.
