We were a bit nervous because when we arrived 15 minutes before our scheduled departure from a parking lot, there were no horses to be seen. I called my contact to confirm I was in the right place and called again when the horses still hadn't arrived 10 minutes after our scheduled departure. However, Megan, our tour guide, certainly made up for it. We had a fantastic ride through lemon and avocado farms, saw a polo field, and enjoyed letting the horses roam the beach. Megan was great with my 3 teenagers, taking snapchats and telling them interesting facts for their ages. The horses each had their own personality and we found that funny. Mine didn't like the ocean water and scooted away. We had great views and the horses were definitely well trained and cared for. This is a great trip through trails and beaches. Highly recommend.
A friend and I went out for their two hour ride and it was the best horseback riding I have ever done. I'm used to horses plodding along and the novelty wears off quickly, but not this one. The horses are wonderful and still have personality and the scenery is so varied and truly inaccessible except by horse! You weave through all these incredible trails around Montecito and down to the bluffs along the ocean. The wranglers were kind and helpful and I cannot recommend Los Padres enough!
I took my daughter with her friend for her 16th birthday because she had always wanted to ride horses on the beach. Everything about the experience far exceeded my expectations. We live in the area but had never seen the places that we rode in the hills of Summerland/Carpinteria. Graham was the perfect guide and shared the history of the land around us and we even got to watch a polo scrimmage along the ride. The highlight was the beach portion and riding in the shoreline but every part of the ride was incredible. I would highly recommend this for anyone and will definitely do again sometime.
I had an amazing 2 hour ride with my husband and two sons - one is 23 and had not been on a horse in 17 years and the rest of us are seasoned english riders. We all had a wonderful time in western saddles on horses that were sweet and gentle but also responsive - not generic trail horses. Our wrangler Carly was lovely to be with - she was equally connected with the horses and the people. One of my children had to leave early and at last minute notice Carly adjusted the itinerary to accommodate him and worked out a plan so we could all keep riding for another hour on a new trail. The scenery was stunning mountain and ocean and amazingly quiet and peaceful. Cowboy hats off to LPO!
My friend and I booked a private horseback riding tour on the beach, which also happened to take us through beautiful orchards and hillside trails. We are inexperienced riders, but it was nevertheless a wonderful experience. The horses, George and Koho, had lots of patience with us. And I totally fell in love with the cute little dog that accompanied us on the ride. The only scary part was crossing the freeway on-ramps on horseback to get to the beach -- not something I've ever done before. I had lots of confidence in our guide, though, and the horses handled it well. The local drivers were also very accommodating.
What a great company and a great ride! I looked at a number of options, but Los Padres Outfitters just felt right.....and it was!
My husband and I took a 2 hour private ride with Graham, the owner. The horses were sweet, gentle and easy to ride. We met our wrangler at the trailhead and he had the horses all ready to go. The trail was a wonderful mix - we wove through the wooded hillside, saw some amazing views of the ocean and then enjoyed a cool ride along the beach. Graham's dog Cruise - a delightful little Jack Russell mix - enjoyed running and sniffing alongside as well! We also learned a lot about the Santa Barbara area during the ride.
Los Padres Outfitters does private rides only - trail rides like we did, but also overnight pack trips (one of those will be on our list for next visit to the area). They may not be the cheapest company, but the little extra is worth every penny - you get what you pay for - it was high end and we were actually out closer to 2 1/2 hours.
If you are looking for a nice, personalized, non-touristy feeling ride to add to your Santa Barbara exploration, this is the company to use!
