Owner description: Buena Vista is a cattle raising Hacienda that changed part of its activity to dedicate itself to ecologic tourism in a rustic environment conserving the idiosyncrasy and culture of the zone. It is located 31kms from Liberia and it borders with the National Park Rincón de la Vieja. It has an area of approximately 2,000 acres, 1,400 of which are intended to regenerate the forest and where adventure activities take place, always protecting the environment. The remaining 600 acres are dedicated to cattle raising and the ranch produces the majority of the products that the Lodge consumes.

Purchased a package from the Riu hotel to Buena Vista. It included Zip lining, horseback riding, huge cold water side with natural water and mud baths. Zip line has 10 stops all the way from the top. Once you do the 1st one you’ll be fine. My 10 year old daughter loved it and wanted to do it again. It was my 1st time too zip lining and I have to admit that I was super scared. Faced my fear and did it and loved it. Looked down even though they said not too but it was well worth it. Horseback riding was fun but too hot outside and took about 45 minutes to get to the mud spa. Spa was incredible including the sauna and natural spring water. I would definitely do this again!!

Buena Vista Lodge is absolutely mesmerizing. It's an all in one ecolodge: you have the adventure component, the sustainability one, and the health and spa one. Everything is on the property, very few activities are offered off-site, and they have around 400 hectares of pure land and bliss. With 7 restaurants, and knowledgeable staff, what else can you ask for? Give it a try, I did and it was worth every minute of it. You know they also have a football terrain/plaza? From a sustainable perspective, they apply the farm to table concept, growing everything natural. Pueblito, one of their restaurants will showcase local cultural events, and 100% authentic TICO food. Just to visit all their restaurants and learn about them will take you a day.

Literally impressed. Staff is amazing as well. Very professional, looking forward to be of help. Their Reservations Manager is a gem, as well as the Miss in charge with the sustainable tour!

Two nights was not enough here, what a wonderful location. The cabin we stayed in was very comfortable, the food was good, the pool was lovely and the Sunset bar was magnificent, what a view.
Our cabin room was very spacious and what I especially enjoyed was hearing the wildlife outside at night. Howler monkeys, the dawn chorus and creatures snuffling around in the dry leaves outside. Magical. On arrival we caught the tractor and trailer service 4km to the hot springs which was very welcome after a long transfer up from Monteverde. Then back to enjoy the sunset followed by a great meal in the sunset bar. The following day after a quick dip in the pool it was off to the zip wires and water flume. The zip wires were good although short, the flume was fairly brutal as you whoosh down the side of the hill in a narrow concrete channel and at some bends you get bashed against the sides if you don’t keep your arms tucked in tight.
A great buffet lunch before an agonising horse ride back to the hot springs via a huge waterfall. The discomfort of the horses was worthwhile in that we saw much more wildlife from the back of the horse, indeed at times we feared the horses would trample the many iguanas we saw.
This was a special place we both enjoyed immensely and would return to at the drop of a hat.

We stayed here for a few days as part of a Costa Rican holiday. It’s in the middle of nowhere so if you don’t have a car (we didn’t) then all your time will be the centre. The accommodation is in wood cabin style lodges, comfortable but basic eg no aircon. These are fairly spread out so you get very little noise from neighbours but make sure you know where it is after dark as the multitude of paths make it easy to get lost !

It’s essentially an activities holiday with lots to do : zip wires, 500m water slide, hanging walkways/bridges, walking, 40min horseback ride to the hot springs (very up & down !). The hot springs were a number of different temperature pools fed by hot volcanic water that you can swim in. There is also hot mud to cover yourself in......

It’s not self catering but there are a couple of places you can eat & drink. Foods ok. The bar on the hilltop has the most amazing views of the sunset (see photo). Get there at least 30mins before sunset to get a place for a good view of the sun going down as virtually everyone goes there at this time.

Lots of wildlife around to see & surprisingly we saw a toucan That normally is in wetter areas than this. We went on the farm eco tour which was facinating & had an enthusiastic & knowledgable guide.

So, great place to go for an active holiday
