After investigating and reading numerous reviews I chose De Hoek based on reviews and online reputation “They’ve pulled out all the stops with this. The roving platter is bought to your table by the Chef himself, with a glass of bubbles, of course! The Chef has whipped up a few firm favourites like the fragile scones with jam and velvety cream, and the decadent chocolate lamingtons – squares of seductive sponge cake coated in an indulgent layer of chocolate and rolled in coconut bits. Mouths watering yet?

Then there’s delicacies like macaroons, an irresistible Pastel de Nata (Portuguese custard tart) and a beautiful parcel of watermelon and goats cheese cream. But wait there’s more – the savory treats include mini pastrami rolls, luxurious trout and cream cheese on rye and egg mayo sarmies. Ten out of ten! Teas and coffees are included in the price too.”!!!
THIS IS NOT TRUE. I FEEL RIPPED OFF! This was exorbitantly expensive and not one thing on the high tea menu was what they said!!!! R280 a per person is more than the biggest rip off in SA, just because they are five star. In all honestly who is satisfied with a quarter cucumber sandwich??? No macaroons, no pastrami actually no meat at all (someone should mention that this is a “ vegetarian high tea”. If you want to feel ripped off go to De Hoek for a high tea. I understand high tea isn’t a meal but come on people please give us something to satisfy our tastebuds.... take off reviews that no longer are a true reflection of what you are actually offering and manage expectations. The setting and Venue is beautiful but I wouldn’t book for dinner or lunch in fear of experiences a similar disappointment especially for the price. Never to go back - very unhappy and disappointed customer!!! ( did you substitute the missing items for Easter eggs????) Those we had plenty of lol

We spent a day and night at De Hoek for my husbands birthday. It was very relaxing. The setting is very pretty. The rooms are tastefully decorated although the lighting at night was a bit dark. The food was delicious, and the restaurant and bar staff were very efficient. We had a wonderful back and neck massage on the Saturday afternoon which we highly recommend. We will be back.

My sister and I booked a weekend getaway at De Hoek based on recommendations from a few friends, and its proximity to the Sterkfontein caves. It was perfectly magical. We were blown away by the exquisite natural scenery of the estate. Weeping willows trailing into a babbling brook, secret clearings between the trees, sweeping meadows reaching for the horizon, delightful chattering monkeys, fabulously feathered chickens signalling the dawn, and a little hill to hike up affording exquisite views of the Magaliesburg valley...a nature-lover's delight. The actual hotel itself exudes an old world charm that makes one feel like you are staying at Downton Abbey. The hotel is made up of a main quarter ( where we stayed), and four other buildings not far from the main house. The service was literally faultless. Smiling and caring staff anticipated our every need, and nothing was too much trouble. Our every whim was catered to , and believe me, two sisters on a catch-up weekend can be pretty whimsical indeed. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was perfect. A big thank you to Gavin and the team who even sent security ahead of us on the hike to make sure everything was ok when we mentioned that we were a bit scared of doing it alone, and organised coffee and pastries for the early morning view at the top. Five star elegance and luxury. Thank you for a magically restorative and rejuvenating stay! All the best success, Shahra and Alia Sattar.

Room Tip: The rooms in the South Quarter are quiet, with a gorgeous view.
